If you could magically make everyone know one thing, fact or idea, what would it be?

If some how you could make sure that every human being knew one fact, one idea, what would you have them all know?

Dec 10 2011: That everyone - all seven billion of us - can be and deserves to be educated far beyond what we have accepted as sufficient; far beyond what we ever thought possible.
    • Dec 12 2011: Would it work to instill the idea that education is valuable in its own right? Now, education is all about achieving a goal to produce something. Would valuing education just for its own process help?

        Dec 15 2011: Sharon,

Yes, instilling the value of education would help. However, I don't think it would be the whole solution. Most people know the value of education. They just don't believe they could actually get one. Most people have been convinced they are stupid by an education system that tries to be a one-size-fits-all solution and fails miserably. If people can't fit the mold then they are led to believe there is something wrong with them and they give up.

I am working on a system that will enable EVERYONE to get a college level education and actually remember more than most current college graduates. Take a look at www.demml.org.

No, if I had one idea I would plant in every man's mind it would be:

    "Be yourself."

  • Dec 17 2011: That we are infinitely more dependent on the earth than it is on us - it is entirely illogical to separate ourselves from, or see ourselves as masters of, the earth

The differences we have are completely irrelevant, its up to you on how they impact on yourself, the thoughts of difference rise from yourself so is up to you to realize this. Sure we can know this and still be able to, for example, select who is more appropriate for what task or things like that, but not the way is done nowadays that we feel the difference with each other deeply, some people really think that there are different people, and they judge and they think of this, modern prejudices. If everyone could feel the great union that links us together, us as humanity and also with the world, the environment, everyone will live happier no doubt. Some day, some day.

Dec 11 2011: That every human being wants to be loved and respected for who/what they are.
    • Dec 12 2011: That's a lovely sentiment Roberta. Do you think there is one idea or fact that could convince people to put that into action. I think people already know this, they just don't feel any compulsion to grant it to them....

Dec 12 2011: I think each person has her/his own mindset and experiences which help her/him creating her/his opinions, therefore we cannot find a magic formula that works with everyone, but we can maybe find many formulas that can apply to large groups of people. I tend to explain concepts with different motives, money for example, if I think it's working, even though it's not the "real" reason . Example: the gay movement and their right to get married. Some countries offer tax reductions to married people, so why aren't same sex couple allowed to benefit from this tax credit? They work and pay taxes like anybody else therefore they should be allowed to get married. This is a theory that tends to work with people who reason in terms of money.Even though for me the reason why these people should be allowed to marry is that they are human being and they just want to be accepted and loved for who/what they are. I guess people who are respected should set an example and help others understand and embrace change. Unfortunately I don't have a magic wound. I hope I was clear enough and answered your question.

    • Dec 12 2011: While we are all responsible for our responses to what life hands us, how would this "knowledge" help those who are dealt a rough hand? Abused children? Starving adults? Victims of war? What impact does it have on our responsibility to one another?
  • Dec 9 2011: That we are all the same.
    • Dec 12 2011: This might actually work! Can we know this and allow for our necessary differences??

    • Dec 12 2011: This goes to the everyone is responsible for their own state of mind question..... If everyone "can be" happy but some one is not are they a failure? Is it wrong to be unhappy when things are bad?
      • thumb
Dec 12 2011: No, I'm not saying that it's possible for everyone to be happy all the time. Only that the human species is capable of happiness. There are some people that really think and act on the premise that human life is necessarily the same as suffering. If I could make everyone know one thing it would be that happiness can be the rule and not the exception.

    • Dec 12 2011: To feel?
      To feel for others?
      To value as an emotion?
      Obviously?

Dec 12 2011: I don't mean Love as a feeling nor as an emotion. But rather as a strong appetence and commitment for improving the life of some other people. and the understanding that you can learn and get so much happiness doing so that it does improve your life in return.

        This can include compassion.
