Does anyone know of any innovative or highly effective recruiting or retention practices targeted at post secondary technology students?

I am the outreach coordinator for a nonprofit serving seven Massachusetts community colleges. I'm looking for more effective practices to recruit students to and retain students in technology pathways.

Answers that point me to a TED talk or a scholarly resource or a blog with a fresh idea about college recruiting and retention would be much appreciated!

    Nov 29 2011: I do know one proven system which fits your description. It was based on conscription into military service. It was popularly known as The Draft. Many young men chose to stay active academically to avoid military service.

      Nov 29 2011: I'm quite amused, though I think my ability to activate The Draft, given my current station in life, is somewhat limited.
