  • Nov 13 2011: writing screenplays that try to raise awareness of humans to the startling loss of our world's cultures; reading post-modernist thinkers; reading social science; cooking wonderful foods and listening to music.

Nov 14 2011: Your hobbies bend towards social topics. Is writing screenplays a cheap hobby?
      • Nov 14 2011: in terms of resources it is inexpensive. It is expensive emotionally in trying to find ways of allowing the marvel of film to open eyes and not just pockets. It is also expensive in terms of the time needed to create real work, but it has always been so if one tries to contribute to society instead of feeding off of it. I am urged to look at trends and what is "selling" by those in the industry, though the majority of films are simply crap- and I am told that also has always been the case. The belief in self and the cost of idealism in this world is the highest cost involved in the process.

Nov 15 2011: David, interesting point of view there. Good to see there are still people out there who are dedicated to contribute to society in a good way. Where can i access some of your work thus far?

Nov 21 2011: How about by asking other people how they spend their free time? Would you consider it a good hobby?

Nov 21 2011: I think in my case that falls in the region of spending time chatting on TED i suppose John, and yeah i think it is a good hobby as you get to hear different schools of thought on a given topic.

Nov 15 2011: talking with friends and eating....
  • Nov 15 2011: No where- sorry! I am a "struggling" screenwriter, still waiting to break in. Thank you for the kind words and the interest. From your mouth to the ears of the gods!

Nov 13 2011: I spend an awful lot of mine on TED and get a lot of pleasure from the exchanges. In addition, I am learning about opera, art, the art of filmaking and I love to read. I also love to walk for an hour or more at a time. It grounds me.

Nov 14 2011: That sounds interesting. but what would you consider a good hobby?

Nov 14 2011: Oh, I also paint in watercolour and in acrylic- not every well but with joy. Did you have something in mind?

What do you like to do Duncan?

Nov 15 2011: If am not busy with work and family assignments i find myself filling the gaps with reading educational and inspirational literature. Weekends are spent doing outdoor sports from power walking to playing golf. Still i find myself wondering whether there are more fun hobbies i could indulge myself in.

Nov 13 2011: listening to music, writing poetry/song lyrics, reading conversations on here, reading, trying to headbang but hurting my neck at the same time and being crazy :D

Nov 14 2011: writing poetry & song lyrics is that just a hobby or a start of a career as a poet or song writer? My thinking has been that a hobby is some activity you do just to pass time not for a future gain in some way. What do you think?

Nov 15 2011: yup its a hobby for me,an escape ... a way to express and reflect upon my emotions. As a career im hoping to study psychology, but i would definitely love to write a novel someday :)

Nov 15 2011: Does it really s matter whether we good or not at whatever escape we choose to occupy ourselves with?
      • thumb
Nov 15 2011: no,i dont think it matters if we are good or not at the escape we occupy ourselves with. What matters the most is the question-does this make me happy? if the answer is yes, then our talents on it shouldnt really matter at all.Singing is also a way of escape for me although i totally suck at it,it makes me happy(not the people around me though :D)
