Who has the right to censor the internet? What checks and balances need to be considered to insure this power is not abused?

Nov 5 2011: The only person who has the right to censor information is that same consumer, and only the information that they are getting. Control your own content, don't be arrogant enough to try to control someone else's.
  • Nov 6 2011: I agree Kenji. No one does.

Don't censor content, source or the internet. If you feel strongly about something pertaining to your kids, then censor your kids. What we have now amounts to this:

If a child fell off a roof, would you suspend gravity to save them? If the answer is yes, then everyone else would fall off the planet, for one person! Don't take away the rights of others to protect only a few, for that leads to tyranny.

That is what is happening though. The today version of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse is being used to take away everyone's freedoms.

"See those people over there? Well, they want to take away your freedoms so in order to protect you, we, your government, will take away your freedoms so that they cannot!!" This is insanity and we should stop it. In fact, we must stop it.

Censor yourself, not others. Censor your children, not me. Raise your children with no rights, no freedoms and only very narrow and limited ways of living and then stand back and watch the violence you will have created within them.
  • Nov 6 2011: I think it depends on the control the sensor has over the audience. For example, parents should have the ability to sensor what their children see on the internet. Military leaders should have the ability to censor targeted misinformation directed at their troops, etc. However, the ability to censor carries a great responsibility. I think that free men should not have their information censored.
