If the Latin phrase "scientia potentia est" aka "knowledge is power" were to hold true - what is compassion if not weakness?

I personally struggle balancing my hunger for knowledge and my compassion for life. The more we know, the more we question. And yet, the more we feel and care, the more we're subject to pain and disappointment. However, I feel facts and knowledge without the experience of life and compassion are meaningless.
