How can we listen better?

How do we improve our listening skills?

    Oct 23 2011: Mostly by not talking ourselves or preparing what we are going to say just as soon as the other person stops talking. Listen without the expectation of being heard. Understand without the expectation of being understood.
  • Oct 22 2011: Listen in a very careful way, it's called active listening and I was trained in it because I work with the mentally ill. First you listen to what they have to say, then you repeat it back to them asking if you understood them correctly. If you were listening you did and if you were not listening you didn't understand them. Then you ask them to repeat what they said and you do this until you do listen correctly. So in short I would say practice and always try to listen, all to often people want to over talk another or inject there own words. It's not only important to listen but to understand what was said.
