Is Randall Mills the 21st Century Thomas Edison?

We are told that there is no "magic" bullet to fix the economy. Maybe there is. Randall Mills, an inventor, tinkerer, with the tenacity of Thomas Edison, has developed the BlackLight Process.

This process which violates known rules of physics takes a hydrogen electron from the ground state, its lowest state, and then drops it below that level to a "hydrino". This step releases 200 times the energy release from the reaction between hydrogen and oxygen to make water.

The BlackLight process is already cost competitive with coal and nuclear, and, as a green energy source, costs less than a quarter of what wind and solar cost. It has no effluent, fuel is free and it doesn't, unlike wind, need a smart grid. In 20-30 years it could end our dependence on foreign oil and permit the US to be the largest exporter of this new technology world wide.

BlackLight already has contracts from seven utilities to generate 8250 mW of electrical energy or over 4 times the output of the Hoover Dam.

Now that Mills has tied up the patents, he is starting to publish his theories.

Mills, R., Brooker, J., Lu, Y. 'Soft x-ray continuum radiation from low-energy pinch discharge of hydrogen' "Under a study contracted by GEN 3 Partners, spectra of high current pinch discharges in pure hydrogen and helium were recorded in the EUV region at the Harvard Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics in an attempt ot reproduce experimental results published by BlackLight Power, Inc. showing predicted continuum radiation in the 10-30 nm region.

"Review of large body of BLP's and independents' data showing conclusively that hydrogen can form more stable states called hydrinos. Specifically, hydrino transitions were observed experimentally by the predicted catalyst excitation, continuum emission and hot H. Similar to the case with the 21cm (1.42 GHz) line of ordinary hydrogen, hydrino atoms were identified by its predicted 642 GHz spin-nuclear hyperfine transition observed by TeraHz absorption spectroscopy..."

  • Oct 6 2011: "...Rowan University have independently and consistently generated in excesses ranging from 1.3 times to 6.5 times the maximum theoretical heat available through known chemical reactions.’

“Chemists Drs Ramanujachary and Mugweru said,

‘Additionally we have analyzed the reactants and reaction products and we are eonfident that the procedures we have followed and chemicals we have procured, characterized and reacted are not capable of generating the quantities of heat we have observed with previously known chemistry. This significant development makes it readily possible for other laboratories to demonstrate the repeatability of these reactions that produce anomalous heat regularly in our university laboratory. Moreover, we have also reproduced BLP’s tests for the third time that identify a new form of hydrogen as the likely explanation of the additional heat produced.’”

“BLP also announced Monday the replication of the extraordinary high-energy light omission below 80 nm from hydrogen at the Harvard Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics (CfA). These results, previously thought to be impossible based on past theory, are predicted be from the formation of hydrinos. The direct spectral observations of hydrogen to form hydrinos and their ubiquitous astrophysical presence as the identity of dark matter of the universe…”
“… the CfA validation, which was headed by team leader Alexander Bykanov, under contract with GEN3 Partners, showed hydrogen spectral emissions below 80 nm, the previously known ground state. This is decisive evidence of the existence of hydrinos as Randell Mills theoretically predicted.”

“Dr. Mills said, ‘This is the smoking-gun evidence of the existence of hydrinos. The light signature observed is from pure hydrogen and exists at a much higher level than deemed possible for the element in any know form."
  • Sep 30 2011: Just read the literature where he supports his theories.

You have only dark matter, dark energy and now dark flow in theory.

We have also measured neutrinos travelling beyond the speed of light. Sort of does a number on the equation: (1-v2/c2)1/2 doesn't it? How is special and general relativity impacted?

You have hit the nail ont the head---"constantly being modified to explain the unexplainable.". In cosmology we have a wealth of retrodictions where Big Bang specialists add new adjustable parameters whenever new data shows up. This is a fundamental corruption of the scientific method which used to rely on theories to permit scientists to make predictions; this is no longer required in physics. We see an entirely new scientific method where the theories are adjusted routinely to accomodate new data.

Sep 30 2011: I don't believe the problem resides in the "cherished views in physics". Pyshics is constantly being modified to explain the unexplainable. We have dark matter, dark energy, and now dark flow. A community which is actively modifying it's views would not then put the blinders on to Mr Mills theory. The problem resides in Mr Mills, and his inability to prove his theory.
  • Sep 30 2011: To those with an open mind just google under BlackLight Power, Inc. and Mills. The problem is not a "basic understanding of physics". The problem is there is a reluctance to accept new theories that revise cherished views in physics. This is a systemic problem.

Sep 30 2011: for those who have some basic understanding of physics, and are willing to think:

if hydrogen has a lower energy state, why natural hydrogen does not exist in that state?

what special circumstances mills created to put hydrogen in that state that does not exists anywhere in the universe? or else, if such circumstances do exists out there, why we never observed that form of hydrogen?

if they have a technology that is viable, and almost economical, where is the demo reactor?

if such a form of hydrogen can be created in large scale, why don't mills hand out samples of it?
    • Oct 5 2011: Answers in sequence to those questions:
The classical ground state is stable and will not lose energy by radiating it.
But there are processes which can cause the transition. See Mills' Book for how.
There is probably Hydrino out there, perhaps as dark matter, and traces have been found
in a few gases and chemicals, here in Earth, but one has to look in the right place.
The reaction may be why the solar corona is so much hotter than the solar surface.

As for exploring the technology, think of the huge delays between Maxwell's theory, Hertz's
experiments, and Marconi's radio transmissions. It takes time to develop new technology, and
it is not even sure Mills can succeed: he may be a trifle optimistic, which he needs to be.

Mills and his team have not so far created large quantities.
I do not wish to extend my reply to compete with the large number of available papers
and the huge book, which you can peruse. As is is so huge, I suggest readers should first skim through rapidly to see what Mills claims and look at all those numbers he computes, usually as well as with quantum theory and sometimes much better.

  • Sep 30 2011: Two more papers and I will not bore the reader with additional facts: Mills, R.L. et al. 2010. "Commercializable Power Source Using Heterogeneous Hydrino Catalysts," INT. J. HYDROGEN ENERGY, 35, 2, 395-419.

"This paper presents a breakthrough solid fuel comprising a catalyst, a source of hydrogen, a conductive support, and oxidation-reduction reactants that releases 200 times the energy of burning hydrogen by the formation of a prior undiscovered more stable form called "hydrino". The resulting power scaled to 35 kW. Proton NMR, YoF-SIMS and XPS confirmed the product hydrinos. The solid fuel chemistry has the important feature the action of the catalyst by removing charge that seems to be a rate-determining step. The solid-fuel chemistry has the important feature that it's regenerable using methods such as molten-salt electrolysis. An advanced version of the solid fuel, the EuBr2 oxidant system, is very efficient at liberating energy from forming "hydrinos" and requires essentially no enegy to reverse the chemical product back into the initial fuel. Regeneration was achieved simply with heat. This is enabling of continuous generation of power using simplistic and efficient systems that use heat liberated by forming "hydrinos"..."

"Rowan Universty scientists have issued their third report on the independent validation of solid fuels that on demand generated energy up to 6.5 times the maximum energy potential of these materials from known chemical reactions and thermally regenerated the reactants demonstrating their capability of a maintaining a continuous fuel cycle for power production. A new hydrogen was again confirmed to have formed as a result of the heat release. Read the results in the Rowan University Report."
