In a world where materialism reigns, yet can never satisfy. How can one fill that hole. I propose a path to fill this void.

Try this teaching: embody the present completely. Most of us feel incomplete like we are still searching for something and most of us dont know what that is with the infinite distractions of reality. The reason man/woman has an unquenchable appetite is because the mind creates the illusion that materialism will fill the void inside of them when that is far from the truth. It is only a temporary fix caused by chemicals in the brain and as soon as it crashes and rebalances the void will return. This is because private ownership is an illusion no matter how many legal documents you have no matter how much you want a material object it will never truly be yours. The only way to fill this gap in the self is to grasp onto what you can have. There is something all of us have that few of us pay attention too. That is the present. You must embrace the present for that is all that one can really truly have. The past is done and the future is uncertain. Do not waste your time trying to reach the horizon as it will only lead you back to where you started and still remain in the distance. What i mean by fully embracing the present is to love the sweet times as much as you love the bitter times. Make the two one. I know this is difficult but if you practice this it begins to fill the void that is where your soul should be. The mind tries to take you away from this and control you with emotion but you must not let this happen. Dont think so much. Just feel and experience, become your senses. Let the love of truth in. The present is the truth. Think of yourself as an empty vessel with which you are trying to fill with love. Fill its so full that is runs over and touches all around you.

Sep 29 2011: I often find it writing the completely wrong word from which i was thinking! I really would love to get into that actually i might just unpack my moms old classical guitar next time im home from college. Thank you for the inspiration. Song writing is also something i am good at who knows maybe i can inspire people through music. I would love to be like the Beatles or Zeppelin they are my idols! They were no ordinary men.

Fill it so full that it runs over and touches all around you.

        This is everything.

        This is enough.

        Stay Inspired.

Sep 30 2011: Truth will always be truth. My mind will always be open to all that is true. Therefore I will always be inspired! I will never be unfulfilled.

Sep 28 2011: What if we're only able to feel the arrow of time, but there really isn't one in practice? What if there is no such thing as time flow, but just infinite presents organized in some peculiar order by our senses? What if our present is as much the sum of all future actions as well as past ones?
Don't the laws of physics work the other way around? The sun's helium sucking energy to produce hydrogen?
    • thumb
Sep 28 2011: You are on to something i think! I believe time is an illusion created in the mind. There is only just infinite presents. I can agree that the present is the sum of all the past that is constantly changing and rearranging itself nanosecond by nanosecond. Hmm i thought the sun used nuclear fusion to fuse hydrogen together to create helium and when hydrogen runs out it begins to fuse helium until it can no longer sustain a reaction?

Sep 28 2011: the entire human history is a continued journey from the past to the future. we work and we care, because we want to make our future better. we draw experience from the past, and apply it in the present to shape the future. everything we have today is someone's dream from the past. fruits of labor, thinking, courage and endurance of past people.
    • thumb
Sep 28 2011: I agree everything in the present is a direct result of the sum of all past actions. Everything has led us to this point. People dreamed but their wildest dream could never have predicted things to be as they are now its quite beautiful dont you think? =]

Sep 28 2011: Well... I agree to some extent. It is not useful to lament about the past, to think about "what-if" or "had-I-only". I also agree that the future is uncertain. Yet, as a researcher of technological utopia, my opinion is that thinking about the future is one of the things that keep us going. One of the things that make us think about what we do, why we do it, and which consequences it would have. If I only thought about the present, I would strive for immediate satisfaction -- e.g. by eating chocolate or purchasing something expensive -- without thinking about the negative consequences this might have: too much sugar and fat, not enough money to eat for the rest of the month. When people only think about the present, they tend to care less about the environment and about their surroundings as well. So for me, thinking about the future is crucial to sustain a healthy and responsible lifestyle -- and to know that there is always something ahead I can look forward to, or that I can work for.

Sep 28 2011: I also agree but there is a difference in:1 taking what could happen in future and applying it to the present. and 2: Living in the future i.e. chasing the horizon. If you chase the horizon your whole life you will end up back where you started and the horizon still taunting you in the distance. The mind would like to make you think that immediate satisfaction is a result of living in the present but that is a mistake. All impulses and desires come from the mind and the mind can only processes and replay what it has already experienced. Therefore all impulses and desires come from living in the past and the mind wishing to relive or re-experience the pleasure of the past. If one is satisfied with the present; mental desires and impulses fade away as you recognize them as merely mental desires that are not real. If one "goes with the flow" so to speak you take things as they come and accept that if one hasn't received something then it was not meant to be at that time. I believe it is very important to think about the future but you must realize the future will take care of itself it always has and always will; it is something entirely independent of your physical self. I hope that makes sense haha. Thank you for your thoughts =].

Sep 28 2011: You are right but you must understand what God is or your mind will create the delusion that you understand. God is fact; God is Truth. Nothing more nothing less. That which is true is the governing principle for all existence. What is the most truest fact there is? The present for it is all you can really know. God is the only thing you can know. If you do not live in the present you do not know God. You must believe only in God or "that which is" Jesus himself said "You will know the truth, and the truth will make you free." If it is not understandable then it is not God. Its as simple as that. If you dont believe what im saying then i completely understand i merely ask that you read either the present or the present (with religion) on the website truthcontest.com. The latter book is a good deal longer so id recommend reading the first before the second. If anything it will just give you a new perspective on things and there is nothing wrong with that. Thank you for your input!
  • Sep 28 2011: i have had this idea too and strongly believe in it but its just hard to stick by when life hits you hard

Sep 28 2011: Life often seems unfair or that it picks on you. I was raised by a single mother who makes less than 20k ($US) a year. I am now in college during the summer before this semester i lost my only car and had two car accidents in my mothers car. We cannot afford another at the moment. I was truly upset with life and it caused me to lose my summer it flew by because i wanted it to end. It slipped through my fingers like sand and i will never have it back. Have you seen this? www.truthcontest.com

Click on the entry called “The Present.” The writing is not very good, but what it says will turn this world around. You will see what I mean when you read the first page.

Sep 28 2011: And if you find it hard to stay positive remember this: You exist and therefore you are true. Is that not something to be happy or grateful about? Lets talk hypothetically say that there was a being who could not exist. They would truly have nothing. They would love the opportunity to feel pain. I ask you this question would you know pleasure with out pain? Light without darkness? Night is only an illusion caused by the rotation of earth. The sun will always shine again. Without night the beauty that exists in the landscape of an illuminated city in the dark would not exist. You have everything to be grateful for. Literally everything! Its your own choice if you choose to reject something that is unpleasant but know in doing so you limit your ability to experience life fully. Everything will be fair in the end even if it doesn't seem that way now
  • Oct 1 2011: Dear Brennan.

    Paragraphs are your friend.

    Platitudes are not.

I hope you take the energy and passion you have for mastering your internal struggles and apply them in a manner that can reach out to more people in a meaningful way.

I might suggest starting by shying away from cheap emotional arguments that amount to little practical value.

Oct 2 2011: Im sorry you think that the message of truth and living fully is a platitude. Im also sorry that i cannot teach this in a way that more people will listen and care. If one does not know; then one can not do. If you know how then share? The beauty is: it doesn't even matter. The truth will reign in the open soon enough. Everyone will be able to see it for themselves. Pink Floyd already said it we are all just bricks in the wall. Though i guess that is considered a platitude as well? We have no control and letting your mind kid yourself into thinking you do, will only cause suffering. Attachment is a form of control therefore it causes suffering as well. You cannot resist or control change. Explain how it is an cheap emotional argument and how i can make it into something more?

Sep 28 2011: How would the mind create an illusion that is greater than itself?Seems like a paradox?
    • thumb
Sep 29 2011: The mind does this by basically lying to itself. The mind often edits memory to satisfy itself especially when it was the mind originally screwed up. Its an evolutionary trick to protect ones minds own beliefs from the influence of others. It why its nearly impossible to argue with someone some time the mind even rejects fact and evidence so keep ones beliefs consistent and solid. That is why it is so important to remember to only believe in what you yourself can know to be true. The present is the truest thing you can focus own on thats is why it is important to base your beliefs around it. Anything else can be laced with falsehoods. Dont even take what im saying to be true. At least the present is something you can experience with all your senses and know to be true. Its the truest truth there is so to speak.
