Are these words necessary ?

I have been watching news from several years , Their isn't a single day i remember not hearing words like "SCAM" , "TERROR" ," RAPE" ,"MURDERED"
"BRUTAL" etc etc., I'm asking this because a 10 year old kid sitting next to me while i was watching news asked me whats the meaning of rape , Which was on the Head Lines !
I feel these words should be banned on NEWS or any television shows because have deep impact on kids , not only kids but on clean society also .
Please have a word about it .

    Aug 4 2011: Hi Sai,
The words certainly do have an impact on society, and a far greater impact on society, are the ramifications of the crimes. Banning the words, is not going to change the behaviors, and might have an adverse impact on society because many people will not be aware of the behaviors. We need to work on changing the behaviors, then there will be no need for the words in the news.

Aug 4 2011: Your comment reminded me of the passage from 1984 starting with "It's a beautiful thing, the destruction of words."

"Don't you see that the whole aim of Newspeak is to narrow the range of thought? In the end we shall make thoughtcrime literally impossible, because there will be no words in which to express it."

I can't help but think of these lines -and shudder- whenever I hear people talking about "destroying" words, as Syme would put it...

        Aug 4 2011: Hello again Marie:>)
It would be wonderful if we could get to the stage where we say...those are the words we used to use for the crimes that no longer exist:>)

I am a dreamer, and I strongly believe that everything begins with a dream:>)

          Couldn't agree more.

Fight against the thing, not the word for it. :)
