What is the meaning of life?

Why are we here?
Its as simple as that, a simple question but is it a simple answer?

Jul 24 2011: Different questions, these two.

I believe that Life is pointless and without purpose. Further, though, I create a purpose for my Life---- if only to distract myself from the thought of pointlessness of existence. NOT ' bliss ', certainly, but it gets me by.

Jul 21 2011: Another one of these eh! ^^

I'll do the old "42" then.

No but seriously, find your own meaning!

Jul 20 2011: See to me the meaning of life is something no one else has ever discovered. People spend there whole life searching for the meaning trying to get rich, find out what there here for but really to me the meaning of life is trying to find the meaning. See people spend there whole lives searching for it, searching to better themselves, trying to find the point of total nirvana. Then when there dying they realize everything they worked there whole life for is gone and the point in life is to live and discover what you've already found. The meaning of life is to try and find it. Just keep chasing your tail that's what were all here for.

Jul 19 2011: Sometimes i feel life is a journey... then i feel its all about attaining self realization(spiritual awareness)... Again i feel its dedicating life... Else an adventure... or being a free bird... Well so many different 'meanings'... But any meaning can mean a friction to the answer... It may help you walk well on your path of realizing it or may resist you from walking the same...

What i said may look stupid for it doesn't answer your question but all that i am sure about is that we can either progress in ways to know the meaning of life or actually create and make a meaning of life...

As to 'why we are here'... i hope we all someday simply answer it by 'Thank god we are here' !!!

Jul 19 2011: One of the many meanings of life is to look at life as a great adventure we all can embark.

There is a great dynamism in our true inner worth and capabilities, our struggles, our failures and our successes and the achievement of our greatest potential that makes our lives a great adventure.

This great adventure of life gives us the opportunity to carve our names and our deeds as a true and lasting legacy to our world and to our children!
  • Jul 19 2011: As a child, the meaning of life comes from learning as much as you can from those who came before you, how to live a good life.
As a middle aged person the meaning of life comes from living a good life.
As an end of life person the meaning of life comes from teaching those around you how to live a good life.

You're on the right path Conner.
  • Jul 19 2011: "There is no meaning to life." This is nothing but a false affirmation we.. basically affirm, in an attempt to reduce the feeling of unimportance. Thinking that our time has or is about to come, we try and find a way in which we have influenced others – hence, ultimately we seek to find a purpose for all that we have done. There is no reason to this and it equates to superstition. The more you try to find meaning to what you do, the more distressed you may be, for ultimately it means nothing. Think of the universe. Infinitely vast, and there are infinite numbers of universes. What effect does life have on any of this? What effect do YOU have on any of this? None.

It is indeed a very simple question to ask, for it is but words evoked to reduce the feeling of insignificance. But to attempt to answer it is but an attempt to reduce a self pity most people barely know existed. From this view, transform this fear of insignificance and doom to the superstitiously active medieval and preceding cultures and heavens were created - you will not die and cease to exist, you will be immortalized, and all your troubles will vanish. As a growing intellectual society, we should abandon these fears and move on to living our life, not because there must be a meaning to it, but simply because we are downright lucky to be here and this is where we are now.

Jul 18 2011: the meaning of life is choice.
    • Jul 19 2011: Thanks Tom.
You need to change "choice" to all caps though if you want to see it in the mirror.

        Jul 20 2011: huh??
        • Jul 21 2011: One of Tom Robbin's books explains that CHOICE is the meaning of life. If you write CHOICE on a piece of paper and then lay it in front of a mirror it will be legible in the mirror as well as not in the mirror (it will not flip). Thus, it is a word that has meaning in this world and the world of opposites. It transcends both universes. Or something like that. Anyway, that is Tom Robbins for you. He wrote Jidderbug Perfume, Skinny Legs and All, and Still Life with Woodpecker, among other things. In one of his books the main characters (if I remember correctly) are a stick, a tin can, and a rock, and it takes place in a box of camel cigarettes. In another the main character is born with abnormally large thumbs and becomes the worlds greatest hitch hiker. There was a movie made after it with Uma Thurman in it, so you should watch it. You may have not noticed this about her, but she's got great thumbs.
  • Jul 18 2011: the meaning of life to me ,is our experiences and others good ones and bad ones,i can live no meaning of life ,while u live a very extraordinary story of life like somebody very famous, thats just in life , but what i dont understand the meaning of death, why we die , and whats after?
  • Jul 18 2011: A great question that each one of us can only answer. No matter how many what or how questions you find answers to, there will always be the why questions-always. I don't need to answer the whys, just knowing they are there is enough.

Jul 18 2011: I'd rather have you ask me "What is the purpose of life?". And I'd say it's what ever purpose you impose on it.

Each individual is endowed with his/her specific body and a specific mental system. So one person's purpose may not be the same as another's as long as it is non-destructive to other people's purposes and to nature.

Meaning of life? I'd say life means the coming together of this extremely complex biology with this extremely subtle consciousness, where the one changes according to space-time and the other does not.

Jul 19 2011: Hi Jim...Good to see you again. Like to talk to you 'cause you don't have a
god-complex..You can admit to not knowing it ALL. Sure we create our own niche and serve within that niche. But I am not happy being insignificant and feeling that I don't matter and just bumble my way thru my life. I value my life and I know happiness and someone tells me that this is all there is. I want my life to go on. I have no idea what life after death might be like but I believe I do not need to fear anything. If others wish to believe differently that is their perogative. I have no quarrel with that. Just stating my case.
