How can social media promote compassion?

How can social media make individuals feel more compassion towards other people, including strangers, and even enemies?

    Mar 2 2011: Psychological experiments with young kids show that helping one child to walk in the shoes of another or to understand how an action feels to another expands their capacity for compassion. When social media tells stories of people's experience with realistic video that does not overwhelm or swamp the watcher to the point of dispair - it works to create compassion. Bono was advised by someone important (mayber Warren Buffet) that he would be far more successful in focussing American donations to Africa if he reminded the American people of their national expertise in problem solving rather than berating or hounding. It worked.
