As a world citizen, will you be comfortable with an integrated response to renewable resources?
I believe that consumption of resources that are non-replenishable as well as those that are renewable, causes a new view of how to supply what the population demands. Resources that are imported to an area, deplete that resource in the exported area, therefore an approach to renew/replenish should be sought.

Now we are at the Rockefeller's crossroads again. Unfortunately we wrongly believe we can make people to switch to a different energy source, by using subsidies and taxes.
Unfortunately this cannot work because it is much like declaring the price of diamonds to be 50 cents. Diamonds actually cost more than 50 cents to make. A diamond prospectors & diamond cutters skills do not exist in a person at birth. It's acquisition requires time which even a person on a deserted island could use for doing other things with immediate gratification: like gathering food.
No amount of pretending (through subsidies, inflation & taxes) that other types of energy sources are cheaper than petroleum can make it true. The true value & cost of production of any energy source will linger on to customer even in centrally planned economy like the Soviet Russia.
So when you desire to unify everyone with a common goal of switching to your favorite energy source, don't expect they will simply be willing to work harder to pay for a costlier energy source.
Your favorite energy source (renewable or not) will only be the norm, if it is truly cheaper than the current norm. No amount of government regulations and political manipulations can change this truth. Don't blame human nature of wanting to pay less either. Everything in this universe wants that.
