Aliens exist.

    Jun 23 2011: As some say.. Many Fairy Tales, or Folk Lores, etc.. Have as there underpinnings an element of truth. As for the size of the expanses beyond Earth... I was watching a program that showed a black hole hundreds of galaxies wide! Amazing... So, my message to any intelligent life near there... Plan your trip soon.. :)

    A side note is yes I think there is extraterrestri... ah heck! Aliens out there and maybe having been here. I used to think after the gas crisis in the 1970s (to echo Sabin's... "this topic again??" comment on how long this has been a topic of discussion/debate..) "If one gets ahead of me in line at the gas pump, then I will react.."

    However, not in alignment with Sabin and more with you Jimmy.. I work with adolescents and have a 15 and 13 year old.... Along with talks about evidences of religious ascertions, spirituality and paranormal activity. Aliens hits the top of the list I think for most intelligent and increasingly existential teens I have worked with.. Some fun conversations!!

    Jun 22 2011: I would say that its not realy the same like the religion, because life exist for that we have proof :D, so its very posible that earth isnt the only planet with life in the whole universe. On the other hand god came to existence with human brain. But i can imagine that more people would rather se god to be the real one, over the aliens:D.

    Jun 21 2011: This topic has already been overdiscussed and in the end it all comes down to your own personal beliefs as there are enough plausible arguments for but also against their existence as also shown in the two, by the way very good, Wikipedia articles.

    As I already answered in a similar conversation, I'll answer the same way I handle religion - I don't know.

          People need to feel that they can speak and ask questions about a topic.
          If you feel satisfied with what you know about it then... good for you!
          Now there are a lot of people that haven't shared their opinion about this yet and now they have a chance to get into a conversation about it...

        Jun 25 2011: An ongoing conversation might be good if there was more to contribute to the topic. Such as a new development concerning SETI and the confirmation of organized extra terrestrial radio signals.

        At this point, I see nothing new that can be added.

    Jun 21 2011: When we talk about alien life forms, we need to take into consideration the scale of the universe, physical and chronological. The universe has been around for long enough for life to originate and get wiped out multiple times. Thus I believe that there are / have been or will be other forms of life in the universe.

    Will we ever make contact with an alien life form? I cannot answer that too confidently, as we could be the first or the last life form to originate in this universe. We may even be the part of the most lively period, however, will we last long enough to be able to contact an alien life form? Thats difficult to answer. Intelligent life is very fragile, and it takes only a minuscule event of the cosmic scale to wipe out intelligent life completely.

    Jun 21 2011: Just considering the sheer probability I think it very unlikely that we are entirely alone. I don't think the fermi paradox is partiularly damning considering we've been listening for a very short time, in a very small area and for very specific signs of life. I think as we increase any/all of these we will eventually find life and intelligent life at that.
    We could bring in thoughts of aliens who deliberately mask their presence and indeed they may exist but they are unnessessary to explain the apparent lack of life.
