Evolving a new mind set which uses 'dementia' sense instead of common sense to live happily with millions of dementia sufferers.
Common sense vocabulary uses words, phrases and assumptions which have evolved through what the vast majority of fellow humans have assimilated from intelligent mass conversation.
When the critical mass changes into a norm where behaviour is driven by millions of people suffering with dementia, common sense will not only become increasingly out of date, it will CAUSE emotional unmanageable behaviour.
There will be a new 'dementia sense' vocabulary which not only prevents unmanageable behaviour, but enhances the sense of well-being for all involved with dementia The new 'sense' will permeate society where provocative attitudes and speech patterns once ruled as common sense.
We will learn when addressing the ever expanding mass of demented people that common sense words and social niceties will change because they create hostile and confused reactions which the new 'normal' people cannot understand.
Dementia demands peaceful, non-intrusive, kindly, thought for- the- other -person -first behaviour.
Imposing norms such as, interrupting, opinionating, speaking loudly, insistent questioning, arguing and losing your temper will, most likely PROVOKE UNRESTRAINED HOSTILITY.
I have 70 staff who in are daily contact with elderly dementia clients. We know the dramatic consequences of using 'dementia sense' and so too do the families because they live with the diference their changed behaviour makes in the home.
My somewhat utopian conclusion is that Petsko's neurological epidemic will force everyone who does not have dementia to form a mindset where, it is NECESSARY to become a quiet, peaceful, caring, gentle, thoughtful person in order to maintain their well-being and not generate violent reactions amongst the mass of 'normally' dementing fellow humans.
The epidemic could create our much fantasied age of Aquarius!
