The food industry must display nutritional information. Why does the media not have accountability for its nutritional value?

As a society society expects the food industry to display nutritional information on its products however we do not even come close to holding mediocrity in media accountable. It's an interesting fact about human beings that we have such contradicting rationales for things. Editors hold an interesting responsibility in the advancement of a society that is very rarely questioned.

Jun 28 2011: food ingredients are to be displayed because you can't know it just by looking at the content.

on the contrary, the content of a tv show or newspaper is exactly what you see there. there is no point indicating them anywhere.

Jun 28 2011: I think the problem you highlighted above can be found in many of my peers here in America. So many people can tell you what the Kardashians are doing or what the last episode of Jersey Shore contained, but while nearing the height of the Presidential campaign season, they'd be utterly clueless if asked what candidate holds what views (or even who the candidates are!).

I understand that everyone needs some time to relax and absorb pure entertainment-value material. However, as with food nutrition, we should also monitor the intellectual nutrition we take in. Just as with fats, sugars, and other empty carbohydrates, moderation is the key. We should be more cautious about the amount of "intellectual junk food" we're putting in our brains. It's getting harder to find sources of good intellectual material on t.v. as well. For example, even the History Channel here in America is full of reality t.v. shows now!
