what is Intend in Human?

Intend is dome thing in brain?
or out of brain?
does science have a certain explain for Intend?
can material have Intend?
Intend is only for Human?
or other kinds of creatures have intend?
what creatures have Intend what have not?
does a stone have Intend?
can Intend be explained in materialism?
can Intend prove we have some thing non-material? like soul.

Jul 18 2011: I think you need to first define "intend" to find/get a reasonable answer.

If you define "intend" as "the idea to perform an action", then you further need to define "idea" and "action". According to the available scientific evidence (e.g. Alzheimer's disease), the way an "idea" is stored is within the brain. The brain is also known to be responsible for ordering your body around, i.e. it guides your performance of actions.

    Actually, a more formal definition:
    http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/intend
"1. to have in mind as something to be done or brought about;"
    http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/mind
    1. (in a human or other conscious being) the element, part, substance, or process that reasons, thinks, feels, wills, perceives, judges, etc.: the processes of the human mind.
    2. Psychology. the totality of conscious and unconscious mental processes and activities.

So... by those definitions, the thing (element, part, substance) that "reasons, thinks, feels, wills, perceives, judges" is the brain. We know we can't do these things without it, but of course, that doesn't necessarily mean that it's the originator. It could be just a bridge. But there are studies that show there is a ~6 second lag between your brain making a decision, and you actually making it.

If there is a soul or anything like it, it definitely interacts with the brain, and its role is much more minor than what you may think.

Jun 20 2011: S.R. Ahmadi, I think that our intent or our will is the power of our hearts to do what is good or bad working in tandem with our brain like Birdia noted. The dyanmics of our minds and our hearts to right our planet is the basic resource of the greatest adventure of all we call life. http://Bit.Ly/KeyPower
    • Jun 20 2011: what you mean by heart? the pumping organ? metaphor? soul?
your link does not seem scientific. can you prove heart is source of Intend. and please say a clear definition of heart.

Jun 20 2011: Like Birdia, I'm not a scientist myself and my writing so far is a projection of my background much as I try to drive the idea that there is an underlying unity and order of sometimes competing ideas like science, beliefs, the mind and the heart.

There's probably a dynamic connection between the mind and the heart and what I think is useful to me and what I think what is a most useful concept to many people is the power of our minds and hearts to be inspired and loved, to understand and care about the things and people around us which is also the resource of our power to right our world.

My attempt to understand the science of the heart and mind has so far led me to the Quantum MInd Theory (http://bit.ly/QuantumMIndTheory) and NDE research (http://bit.ly/NDEresearch). Perhaps a fellow Tedster can look in the TED talks and the research world and summarize their findings for non-scientitsts to understand.
        • Jun 21 2011: I studied some about Quantum MInd.
but its is only and only a hypothesis.
also about NDE there is no scientific explain.

"Perhaps a fellow Tedster can look in the TED talks and the research world and summarize their findings for non-scientitsts to understand."
yes. I appreciate that fellow Tedster.

      thanks.
can you explain it more scientifically?

        • Jun 20 2011: I want to find a scientific evidence for source of Intend.
I do not think its source is brain.
