Government deleting porn sites from the web.Good or bad?

    Jun 29 2011: In light of the recent Supreme Court discussion about violence in video games, I don't believe the government should censor any web site. As Bob said, "I would say it is acceptable for a private company hosting sites to create terms and conditions to limit what that company perceives as pornographic." If a parent wants to restrict what their children watch, then that is a family matter.
    Seldom is anyone forced to watch porn against their will but if the are, that is a different legal mater.
    Placing all porn sites on .xxx domains would be acceptable with me.
    Steve, pornography has caused some to go over the boundary but I believe it has provided an outlet that has prevented many more from crossing it.

    I do not believe it should be a role of the government to censor sites regardless of content. I understand some cultures and countries believe in censorship or community parenting but these systems can fall prey to abuse and restrict the free flow of thoughts and ideas.

    What happens if a certain government deemed the visible faces of women to be pornography and banned all sites with such content? Can the average person really agree to a government with such power over the free expression of people?

    I would say it is acceptable for a private company hosting sites to create terms and conditions to limit what that company perceives as pornographic.

    Jun 14 2011: I know there have been talks to place all porn sites on .xxx domains. I am very much in favor of this. This will make it much easier for parents to put safeguards in place by way of browser filters. Any porn sites that use another domain extension would be then taken down.

    And to answer your question from a moral perspective, I believe pornography is very unhealthy to society and our respect for eachother. Good question, and one that should be discussed.
