First preference: Global warming or Terrorism??

We know that we are facing many problems that are leading to destruction of earth and environment including terror and global warming. But what should be our first step? should we deal with global warming first or terrorism? Both these are changing our ways to live. Every human being is suffering or will suffer on every part of earth at the end.

  • thumb
Jun 3 2011: I'm sorry but this question is ridiculous. Human beings are not sequential machines. We can do (and will do) stuff in parallel. We can do stuff to fight both at the same time. To ignore either for even a short period of time will be a catastrophe. When has the human race at any time in history set aside all problems just to focus on one? I don't think we need the secret services or airport security fighting global warming instead of terrorism or the opposite with environmental scientists. Besides, it's a known fact that throwing more people at a problem doesn't necessarily mean the job gets done faster.
    • thumb
Jun 7 2011: Matthieu, i think you didn't get my question. I'm not saying to ignore one of these and fight against the other. What I'm asking is while dealing with both side by side which of them you consider will destroy us first that's my point!!
  • thumb
May 30 2011: Global Warming since we can ALL actually do something to better our environment. I see combating terrorism as a lost cause (almost) because it is impossible to change people's opinions/emotions.
    • thumb
May 31 2011: how can we do something better to our environment w/o eliminating terrorism Paige??
  • thumb
May 31 2011: I'd vote to work on global warming first. Terrorism is a technique for reacting to very unsatisfactory conditions. Both the US and Canadian militaries have studied global warming and have concluded it may cause massive immigration and conflict as parts of the world become less habitable. I imagine they are already planning to defend the borders of both countries as this situation develops. If the worst happens, terrorism in a few decades could be far, far worse than the last 20 years.
    • thumb
Jun 1 2011: I think global warming will take some time to affect us as compared to that of terrorism that is the only point.
    • thumb
Jun 1 2011: The difference between Global Warming and Terrorism is that Global warming is a myth (not that it is not taking place but that man has anything to do with it) and Terrorism is real.

The other difference is that we are spending money to battle a myth while burying our heads in the sand against a real problem.

Have you heard of Harold Camping? He's the guy who prophesied the end of the world a few days back because of our evil ways. Global warmers are just the same. They are prophesying on pseudo-scientific evidence, the end of the world because of our evil ways. All the tree huggers and people who dont have a clue about science have readily embraced the philosophy.
      • thumb
Jun 1 2011: But Richard, how do you think terrorism should be combated? Terrorism within this context would be Islamic extremism. That is an ideology. Do you think you can fight an ideology with guns? History has taught us too many lessons to learn from. When you fight an ideology physically you are aiding it on the long run. The crucifixion of Jesus Christ helped his message; the murder of Joseph Smith is a plus to his ministry.

Just look at the recruitment of terrorism since the invasion of Iraq and Afghanistan. What is needed to fight an ideology is a counter ideology like US boxed communism. A counter ideology that works – not guns. This is why there were no terrorist in Iraq until you invaded, the situation in Afghanistan has worsened – the so-called Al-Qaeda is getting bigger and stronger. The Arab spring has been the biggest blow to terrorism and that’s an ideology not sending troops . . . I just hope my point came across.

On the global warming issue, I am no expert but I think it sounds more serious that terrorism. If the media has done anything so far is prop up terrorism and terrorise people more. How many people has actually died from terrorism?
        • thumb
Jun 1 2011: I absolutely agree with you that ideology should be fought with ideology. With reason and logic.

But the ideology of terrorism springs from Islam. Bin Laden, The Muslim Brotherhood, Hamas etc all quote the Quran and the Hadiths. I have listened to what they say and I agree they are correct about what they believe, on the basis that they do. (Not that I agree with the basis itself).

But we are not allowed to criticise Islam. It is politically incorrect and supposed to display "racial prejudice", though Islam is not a race but an ideology. We are told by Western leaders and apologists that is not the "real Islam", that the "real Islam" is peaceful. We are told to disregard what these people are saying. That they dont know what they are talking about, but that these apologists who have never read the Quran, Hadiths or the biographies of Muhammad, know better about Islam.

How is the west fighting ideology with ideology? It is not. Were the Nazi POW's provided with Mein Kamphs? It is denying to even name the enemy. The people in Guantanamo Bay Were they engaged in dialogue to persuade them their way and their beliefs were wrong? No they were provided with Qurans. Was there any attempt at dedoctrination? Absolutely none.

Jun 2 2011: Islamic corpus has been in existence for over a thousand years - where were the terrorist all this time? In historic times people were more religious than present age hence, was the Quran not readable all through the twentieth century? Why all the sudden fuss about Islam been a “terrorist thought”. Where was this ideology in all trough America independence and the two world wars . . .
Richard, do you think US and NATO army can bring terrorism to a close? Or, you probably think the war in Afghanistan and Iraq made America safer.

The policies of the west are actually the cause for increased terrorism. The 7/7 bombing in London was conducted by British citizens with no exception. None of them ever left Britain.
There is a difference between “radical Islam” and mainstream Islam. You know this. You know this because Islam is a religion of 1.5 billion people; if your depiction of Islam is accurate then we have 1.5 billion terrorist.

The stupidity of the preceding sentence displays the absurdity of naming Islam the enemy. The numbers of terrorist are small however the behaviours of US have helped increased the figures and create new sites.
        • thumb
Jun 2 2011: I think that is the problem, only America is dealing with these terrorism so they are the only one suffering from it but what should happen is the whole world should come forward with the same motive of removing terrorism!!!
Talking about Islam, i am a Muslim too so i well aware of what actually Islam is! But terrorist are misinterpreting it to the whole world. They are misusing it to fulfill their demand and using it as an excuse.
        • thumb
Jun 2 2011: "Islamic corpus has been in existence for over a thousand years - where were the terrorist all this time? "

Just read the history of Islam, starting with Muhammad's 65 wars, the bloody battles and wars of succession after his death. Islam declared war on every major religion in the world in just the first few decades following his death. Jihad against Hindus, Christians, Jews, Zoroastrians, and Buddhists.

By the time of the Crusades (when the Europeans began fighting back), Muslims had conquered two-thirds of the Christian world by sword, from Syria to Spain, and across North Africa. Millions of Christians were enslaved by Muslims, and tens of millions of Africans. The Arab slave-trading routes would stay open for 1300 years until pressure from Christian-based countries forced Islamic nations to declare the practice illegal (in theory).

"do you think US and NATO army can bring terrorism to a close?" No that is a separate matter. Ideology has to be fought with ideology, but that doesnt mean we disband our counter-terrorism agencies. Stop airport security etc.

"The 7/7 bombing in London was conducted by British citizens with no exception. None of them ever left Britain. There is a difference between “radical Islam” and mainstream Islam. You know this. "

They were all Muslims of Pakistani or Jamaican descent. The radical Islamists are the purists. They take their inspiration from Islam, the Quran and the Hadiths and nothing else.

Most Muslims one hopes disagree with their violent method of spreading Jihad. A major part of the battle is for moderate Muslims to convince the Terrorists that they are wrong. Thats their job.

"if your depiction of Islam is accurate then we have 1.5 billion terrorist." That is fallacious reasoning. Terrorism is not part of Islam, Jihad is. Terrorism is one form of Jihad that some adopt.

There has been some terrorism in your country also. What do you have to say about that?
        • thumb
Jun 3 2011: hey Richard sounds like your are really against Muslims and what you said is absurd. Why would you blame all the Muslim community just because some of them are involved in activities of harming people? You know Quran doesn't says to kill people and do what ever you like it's just that they are misinterpreting this idea! Islam is really against these activities!!!!
        • thumb
Jun 3 2011: Dear Sheikh I am sorry that I sound like that. I am not against Muslims at all. I am against the Ideology of Islam because it is an ideology that is against equality. Equality between men and women, and between Muslims and non-Muslims.

Muslims are human beings enslaved by the ideology. Most Muslims interpret their ideology in a way to live lives as very decent human beings because they interpret their religion according to their own internal concepts of morality.

Tell me where does the ideology of people like Bin Laden, or Abu Hamza come from?
        • thumb
Jun 7 2011: I agree with your concept of equality bw men and women and Muslims and non Muslims.
But not all Muslims interpret that ideology of Islam wrongly and i am one of those! But i don't know from where does these people get their ideology, i'm also against them. I just know that Islam doesn't allow anybody to kill people independent of what the matter is!
      • thumb
Jun 3 2011: Richard, what you called ‘terrorism’ in my country is politically motivated. I think political crisis would be the right term. Because the media is so hungry to broadcast terrorist activities they feed their hunger by naming it terrorism. These activities are conducted along ethnic lines – and it’s been a problem since independence. A problem created by British strategy of divide and rule . . .

You said I should read of the history of Islam – what about the history of Christianity. Does it occur to you that slavery in my sub-Saharan Africa was started by Christian missionaries? The history of Christianity is worst, don’t get me started. .

You agree ‘there were no terrorist in Iraq until you invaded’. Now, just answer my question ‘where were the terrorist all through the twentieth century?
        • thumb
Jun 3 2011: @ Ehis "Richard, what you called ‘terrorism’ in my country is politically motivated. I think political crisis would be the right term."

Then is there no religious motivation at all? What about these examples?
"Borno state police chief Mohammed Jinjiri Abubakar said the attackers, who he described as "religious fundamentalists", used home-made bombs to strike."
          http://beta.news.yahoo.com/bombs-hit-vaccine-centre-government-northern-nigeria-185613801.html
"Nigeria attacks claimed by Islamist sect Boko Haram"
          http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-africa-13618775
"Multiple blasts rocked Nigeria's restive Muslim north and a city near the capital following the inauguration of the country's southern Christian president, officials said Monday...Boko Haram, which means "Western education is sacrilege" in the Hausa language, has asked pushed for the implementation of Sharia law in northern states."

"Suspected Islamists kill eight in northern Nigeria"
          http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/20110527/wl_africa_afp/nigeriaunrestreligion

Agreed these people want political power but is there no religious motivation for wanting this political power?

"Does it occur to you that slavery in my sub-Saharan Africa was started by Christian missionaries?"

Not that I have read. I posted several links on African slavery, sub-Saharan slavery was started by Muslim Arabs long before any Christians stepped foot there.

"Prior to the 16th century, the bulk of slaves exported from Africa were shipped from East Africa to the Arabian peninsula.Arab slave traders differed from European ones in that they would often conduct raiding expeditions themselves, sometimes penetrating deep into the continent. They also differed in that their market greatly preferred the purchase of female slaves over male ones."

Jun 3 2011: "Now, just answer my question ‘where were the terrorist all through the twentieth century?"

What is your definition of "terrorism"? Is it just the suicide bombers or for example the massacres and genocides carried out by people?

If it is the latter, I have just posted a list of genocides since 1915 on the Israel Palestine conversation
      • thumb
Jun 6 2011: You said "I have just posted a list of genocides since 1915 on the Israel Palestine conversation” - you need to start having an honest debate Richard. To present that as evidence of the existence of Islamic terrorism in the last century shows desperation on your part. Perhaps we should delve into how the so called Christians in your country discriminated and segregated fellow humans on the bases of colour. .
      • thumb
Jun 6 2011: "Then is there no religious motivation at all? What about these examples?" I never said that - there are always religious motivations in everything a religious person does. Consider your country, there are religious motivations in the core of GOP’s program, discrimination of gays, US support of Israel - but it doesn't explain the whole issue. .

The headline, 'Nigeria hit by multiple blasts after inauguration' tells you it was a political statement more than a religious one. . the media will go any length to present the news in a terrorism-like way .
  • May 30 2011: oh no its not a massive group at all! its a number of few very wealthy families who own every major company in the world. the rest are sheep who just follow!

    tv, food, education, politics, etc.
    • thumb
May 31 2011: Why do you think that these few number of wealthy families have such a power to control everything in this world??

Jun 11 2011: It's simple theoretically we have to deal with them both , perhaps a little bit lesser with the terrorism because it is more productive sometimes.
  • thumb
Jun 6 2011: not only Terrorism and other lot things depends on!
  • thumb
Jun 3 2011: It's true global warming due to terrorism. First started from Afghanstan and now Pakistan is suffering this fever.
  • thumb
May 30 2011: Terrorism is a word that means to create ideas of terror upon people.

How exactly do you fight against ideas? Oh, yeah, stop thinking about them.

Anyways, if it wasn't for Rasheed's comment all I would of said is " how is this an either-or? and why do you assume terrorism is a genuine problem?"

Unless you are thinking like a conspiracy theorist, there is no reason why these two things can't be dealt with at the same time.

For global warming or even better the prevention of all pollut(ing)/(ion) for the entire world and not just the air/atmosphere(s). Make laws for bio-safe and green products to be used, mandated, and/or tax deducted. In America you can get up 50 - 60 percent off of your solar panel installment.

Again terrorism is just an idea, terrorist actions are what should be better educated on. You do not to be labeled a "terrorist" to actually be a terrorist.
    • thumb
May 31 2011: you don't look to consider terrorism even a problem. It is the only thing that is harming economy of countries like India, Pakistan, i think even for USA sometimes! It is actually blocking our ways to development and many more! And i would like to redefine terrorism as ' it's an activity to fulfill demands by harming people '. It's almost common so why don't we first deal with this and then switch to global warming!!!!!!!
      • thumb
Jun 1 2011: Terrorism is the word given to those who are not in favor of the people in power, the people in power can also perform acts of terror.

Terrorism is an illusionary idea, it isn't real.
      • thumb
Jun 1 2011: No I am not trying, I am saying you cannot fight against terrorism. You can fight against people who perform terrorist acts, but you cannot literally fight against terrorism, you need to educate the world on why evil is in the world and then evil in the form of terrorism can be dealt with globally and sensibly.
        • thumb
Jun 1 2011: You are very intelligent Nicholas. One cannot fight against an ideology with guns - the best way to fight against an ideology is a counter ideology -educate people - as you said- on a different and better idea. that’s what the US government and the Media fail to grasp.

If you fight against an ideology with guns you are literally serving it.
        • thumb
Jun 2 2011: Yes we're!!!! We're fighting against terrorist. I think you know that we cannot educate people who are already involved in terrorist activity? Right? We cannot change their mind so the best way is to get rid of them!!! Because they are the only ones who are tricking people into these awful activities!
      • thumb
Jun 2 2011: I think you give these groups of terrorist entirely too much credit.

The real fear of terrorist does not come from the group itself but the media covering the group's actions.

Terrorism is a good idea. I mean while in my left hand I am broadcasting these "terrorist groups" killing people for "no reason" while in my right hand (the one you're not looking at) I am at war with nations killing innocents and raping their lands for resources, hello I am America.

Now these other countries, even yours, are in partnerships with America, if it is our "problem" it is your problem. Terrorist are those who do not want to follow established social orders that are established, that is it. They want to be like every other nation, with their own power and resources.

It is completely ignorant to consider these people a number one danger, it is complete ignorant to consider "terrorism" the number one concern.

Terrorism will fix itself when the world is better equipped and everyone's basic needs are met. Since this won't happen for sometime, be prepared to hear a lot about terrorism.

May 30 2011: Aseem - i think terrorism is a fine pretext for America's occupation which is done due to her hunger for oil. . In the United States people die more from dog bite than they do from terrorism. . Terrorism is good market for politicians to gin up votes - media and also an excuse for occupation. .

Global warming is more serious (If it is true). I am not an expert in this field but from what I have read I think we should be more serious about global warming.
    • thumb
May 30 2011: No question global warming is a genuine happening, how much it effects/affects us is up for debate still.
    • thumb
May 31 2011: Why would you think that? It's not for America only many countries are suffering from terrorist activity and Ehis how can you forget about 9/11?? Even though Osama is dead it doesn't mean we have finished our work, there's a lot more to do.
To fight against global warming we need contribution from all countries for that we have to maintain a healthy relation between nations which can only be achieved if these terrorist activities can be stopped as they force us for discrimination between countries
      • thumb
Jun 1 2011: I do not forget 911. I also remember the fact that One Million People died at the other side of the divide; a country called Iraq as a result of it.

There is terrorism – no doubt. But it has been over exploited. The efforts to comeback terrorism are not reasonable.
  • May 30 2011: both global warming and terrorism are created by the illuminati to fulfill their plans of a new world order! how?

the plan of the illuminati in the next decade is to significantly decrease the population of the world. because less people more control, more people less control! we are witnissting many "natural disasters" which in fact are not natural at all! most of the earthquakes we are witnessing are created by HAARP, search it to understand!

global warming will justify their plans of spreading diseases, and then vaccinate us with more diseases.

terrorism is a way of removing goverments and having a more pro-us pros isreal goverment. the usa is in iraq for oil, and in afghanistan for opium!
    • thumb
May 30 2011: Rasheed, is there any organisation like Iluminati? You must be a fan of Alex Jones, he does not understand the concept of World Order . . . You and your conspiracy theorist friends do not understand the meaning of ‘world order’ let me help you out. .

It’s a system controlling events in the world, esp. a set of arrangements established internationally for preserving global political stability. The current system is Post–World War II order. . i.e. it was organized after second world war, with the creation and structure of United Nations(naming of permanent members), creation of Bretton woods institutions like IMF, World Bank, GATT (later turned WTO ), the dollarization of international system . . etc . . That is the present world order. . .

New world order simply means another arrangement of the international system. . we are currently in transition any major crisis will reshape the world. Before the second world war – the world was in a different order (post world War 1) and before 1914 the World was in a Pax Britannica order.
      • May 30 2011: the start of the new word order that you claim we do not understand is in 2012. just around the corner. and let me tell u something. you will be shocked!

many people will die, many disasters, and many wars. all of that will prove their existance even stronger!
        • thumb
Jun 1 2011: Rasheed, you must be very impressionable to buy Alex Jones's tales
      • thumb
May 31 2011: Yeah Ehis i think Rasheed have misunderstood the concept of World Order!!!!!!
    • thumb
May 30 2011: I like you Rasheed, however, separate yourself from the name Illuminati from the idea of the Illuminati.

The Illuminati is the idea: that there are people behind the scenes controlling the people in public eye (Entertainment, education, and production) and the people controlling the people controlling the public eye are the people making the big decisions. Big decisions, like the ones you are claiming, perhaps bigger.

The Illuminati is the idea there are people making the decisions that affect the globe. That the people behind the people behind the public eye are working together in some shape or fashion. However the title for the group being Illuminati itself would be interesting, but unlikely.

I am completely on the page that there are a select group of people making decisions that affect billions of lives everyday. However they are already illuminated. They are the super rich of the world today that network together.

I am completely sure that if there was a said group of Illuminati-like qualities they would all have to be multi-billionaire rich, know a lot of important people, and love power. Power is only shared with the logic that if shared 1. more power in return, 2. benefits (Ex: profit), and/or 3. passing it down the lineage of the blood relatives.

When you look into the politics of the world, do a few things: follow the money, know who the super rich families and corporations that originate/prosper in that nation, who(m) works with who(m) in business(es), and who(m) does the supporting of said nations politicians.

I hope I helped clear up the true meaning of the illuminati.

Also sometimes even conspiracies theories have to be just considered theories and not reality. It requires a significant amount of people to even start a good conspiracy, like the one you are suggesting is already pretty popular. However do not get tied up with names and keep telling people where to look, even if they do not believe, they will still have an idea of it.
      • May 30 2011: ok you dont want it to be called the illuminati, then fine! but you cannot tell me that there isnt a group out there who is controlling the world, and the media by spreading whatever information they want, and brainwashing people with whatever they want.

in the news few years things will become more clear to people, but sadly it might be too late!
        • thumb
May 30 2011: If it is a group, the group is massive and each person in said group has a lot of sponsors putting them in that position.

However what I feel it is more apparent that it is again I as already stated.

"I am completely on the page that there are a select group of people making decisions that affect billions of lives everyday. However they are already illuminated. They are the super rich of the world today that network together."
        • thumb
May 31 2011: Rasheed, may i know where did you get this information about this secret group who is affecting the people all around the world.?? Trying to do whatever they want!
    • thumb
May 31 2011: Rasheed, you look like a member of that Illuminati, you know everything but its not like that! I totally disagree with you, first thing HAARP is not only the thing that is contributing to global warming, your way of saying is absurd its like you are blaming US. You should know there are many countries which are vastly contributing to global warming. These human activities lead to emission of greenhouse gases which is almost normal in every nation!!
Second thing is terrorism, don't you know about certain organization like Al-Qaeda all these are headache to all nations as they are destroying economy and harming innocent people! So don't you think you are blaming the idea of Illuminati(which i think is hypothetical)???
