Are we right in eradication of a single disease entity thru' vaccination or other means?
Each disease entity is interrelated to other disease entities. If we remove one entity it will create an epidemiological imbalance. For e.g. After eradicating smallpox, there was a huge rise in Tertiary syphillis cases, as those cases of secondary syphillis (latent) could now develop into 3syphillis. In presence of smallpox, these 2syphillis cases if suffered from smallpox would get cured of syphillis as the treponema in the blood stream could not bear the high grade fever of small pox. Similarly, we can draw an analogy to other illnesses too. I believe, disease entities are similar to living organism species in nature. If one is grossly disturbed it has an effect on the related species too.
