should we lose our ego or just become part of a collective ego?

After this talk, should we lose our ego or just become part of a collective ego? I think it would never be easy to lose one's ego with consciousness as the self is always engaged. Why not adopt the idea of Attar's 'simurgh' or the collective ego where collective identity and growth takes an upper hand than individuals? Each helps the other to improve, grow and live peacefully. What's your stance? Take it more as a discourse than a debate. Thanks.

Mar 3 2011: Ego and compassion are not at odds. A healthy ego recognizes one's faults and allows empathy. Egos gone wild is another story.

Feb 18 2011: You are right Raheel about colective 'ego' but that's the question :Who will be willing to do that?

Feb 17 2011: Ego is selfish , do you refer at ego as consciousness ? but is OUR ego and 'our' means selfishness , colective ego , don't exist that , what there is now is just someone that is upper than others for his interest , who don't follow his own interest? Isn't that selfishness ?
What I'm thinking that is in the minds of the most when they hear about :"collectiv ego"( something which don't exist , there is just interest in my view ) is just a kind of warm feeling , something like when are more people togheter.
Compassion if that means to lose something what's yours for others , that's very scarce happen .

Feb 18 2011: collective ego could only be nurtured if you put others above you or at least put yourself in their shoe.

Feb 17 2011: I think, ego is intrinsic to human beings. Ego is the machine that drives us.
As for a collective ego: If I understand you right, you mean with collective ego a system or society here the common goal stands above the individual. Is that correct ?
If so, then it wouldn't be so new, because, at least in theory, that would in essence be the idea of Marxism and communism.

Feb 17 2011: I would not limit it to sections of societies, groups or cults. I would say collective ego is across humanity, something similar to what charter for compassion suggests.

Feb 17 2011: I think that for a peaceful world , shouldn't exist NO ego, look at all the problems of our humankind , all have their roots in EGO , did you never hear : I wanna be the best , I wanna be a star , I wanna more moneys , for what ? for ourselves , we are the problem , humankind is the problem of humankind ................very interesting , don't you belive that?

Feb 17 2011: Interesting question Raheel, I see our ego's as being dark and creative. They are dark if led by self for self, about self - if my ego can be used to drive change, innovation and improve is this perhaps a creative ego. If i choose to put my ego into a collective then am i now part of a religion or political party that has a collective ego that is shaped by its members but mainly manipulated by the leaders "head ego". Now some will say that there a lots of very good organisations doing a lot of good work all around the world...adding my ego to this may then be good....even though these organisations will still have a "head ego" ?

Feb 17 2011: very interesting views. I would say it is nothing less than miracle that we are creations still we have power to be creative. However, in collective ego, there is no head and each one of us are head or maybe the head ego doesn't have temporal ego which changes.
