How would you challenge yourself?

What are the actions that you take in order to challenge yourself in achieving your goals?

    I begin challenging myself every morning when I get out of bed! The body is getting older, less flexible, and more challenged, so to move in the morning is the first challenge of the day!

    Right after that task, I remember my mom, who died about 25 years ago at age 87. She used to get up in the morning, have a cup of coffee and read the morning paper. She read the obituaries first, then with a twinkle in her eyes, and a smile, she would announce....."well, I'm not in there today, so I guess it's going to be a good day"

    I challenge myself with a belief that the life experience is an adventurous exploration, filled with all kinds of things to discover with curiosity and love....guess I got that from my mom:>)

      I like the idea of challenging yourself by simple thoughts and if the thoughts are as simple as you related, then it is even better. Thank you for your answer.

      PS: I really like your mom's attitude. I guess she was a very optimistic person.

        Some may not think/feel that being optimistic is a challenge, but it can indeed be a challenge at times when we are aware of the challenges in our world. It is sometimes a challenge to believe in life as an adventure, in which we can learn and grow with curiosity and love. When we can get by that hurdle however, it helps to face the challenges with curiosity, love and eagerness to learn, grow and evolve while contributing to the whole:>)

  • Jan 11 2014: Challenge what you fear. For example, I am afraid of heights but took up sky diving and mountain climbing. Also, walk on the edge of failure.
  • Jan 4 2014: It seems I like to challenge myself with my interest.For an example,I don't feel satisfied with my income,but I motivate myself to do my job well,because I told myself how important and how significant a job I am doing,I shouldn't have excuse not try all my best to do it well.

  • Jan 2 2014: I have always enjoyed solving problems. Some are small, some are not. I am retired now so I can work full time on any problem I want to tackle and I only have two that I really want to put some effort into in the coming years. 1) Get as many people as possible onto a healthy plant based diet. 2) Get as many people as possible to accept responsibility for their actions. That's it, quiet simple really.

        I have wondered if, by going nowhere, one can go everywhere.
        I've wondered if I'm living life or if life is living me.
        I would Go to the present moment, but I'm already here.

        • Jan 4 2014: You're talking about the TAO, simply being. You wake up and you go, where doesn't matter, but you go, collecting life experiences on your way. To where? There, here, and nowhere! Like a drop of water in the ocean.

    For me, a person tending to be lazy and a procrastinator, I often set my goals much higher than those I think I can achieve or set the ideal deadline of the task earlier than the real expiry. By doing so, I can push myself to finish as many tasks as I can and take actions as fast as I can. For example, if I can remember 50 English words a day, I'll set 100 for my goal to challenge my intelligence and diligence.

    Jan 1 2014: well, one thing is I'm not very good at practical repairs, such as repairing a bed or a chair. But I'm willing to get in and try. How about you, David, are you good at repairing things?

      Jan 1 2014: This is not about repairing stuff. I was wondering how do you achieve your goals and how you challenge yourself in achieving that goals. I don't think repairing a bed is a goal in life.

        Jan 1 2014: yeah, David, my goals are ambitious, but they really aren't challenging, they're very achievable. Come to think of it, I'm not even sure doing a home repair is challenging. Really, if you find something challenging, maybe you're showing bad judgement? shouldn't you make a good judgement as to what you are capable of doing and then go ahead and do it?

        Jan 1 2014: Don't you think increasing ones self-sufficiency, including being able to repair things rather than replacing or relying on others, might be a worthy aspiration? It needn't be among your goals personally, David, but it is an area many people choose to try to enhance for their own benefit and to benefit those they can help with those skills.
