Solar powered dehumidifiers

IN SOME CIRCUMSTANCES DROUGHT IS CAUSED FROM LACK OF RAIN, BUT THERE CAN BE A HIGH LEVEL OF HUMIDITY, WE SHOULD HARVEST THAT HUMIDITY , WITH A DEHUMIDIFIER POWERED BY SOLAR PANELS WE CAN CREATE A SOURCE OF WATER WHERE THERE WAS NONE.

Nov 6 2013: Is there any technology being used in India ? Absorption by a highly hygroscopic material and then extraction and recycling the absorption material may be a better way to then use the solar power only for the extraction process.

Oct 29 2013: It may even work without any electricity by the use of textured and modified surfaces:

'Beetles in the genus Stenocara that dwell in Namibia's Namib Desert have evolved an ingenious method for obtaining water in this arid region. Their wings are textured in super-hydrophilic (extremely water-attracting) bumps as well as super-hydrophobic (water-repellant) valleys that together wick vapor right out of the wind. '

    • Nov 3 2013: YES, I SAW THAT ON TED TALKS, AND THOUGHT IT WOULD BE A VERY GOOD IDEA, I WAS TALKING ABOUT USING EXISTING TECHNLOGY, FOR MORE IMEDIATE RESULTS AS PEOPLE ARE SUFFERING NOW. BUT YOURS WOULD BE BETTER FOR LONG TERM LOW MAINTANENCE.

Nov 3 2013: I agree, immediate programs need existing technology, now.
        • Nov 6 2013: PERHAPS TEXTURED TILES ON THE OUTSIDE OF A MANMADE TOWER IN THE MIDDLE OF A DRY LAKE BED, IT WOULD CREATE A DRAMATIC EFFECT AS THE WATER FORMED ON THE OUTSIDE OF TOWER AND FILLED THE LAKE BED, OR SWIMMING POOL- MUCH LESS DRAMATIC BUT MAYBE A SIMPLER START.
        • Nov 6 2013: ALSO IF YOU HAVE MAPPED THE BUMPS AND VALLEYS WELL ENOUGH YOU COULD PROBABLY GET THE PEOPLE THAT MAKE CIRCUIT BOARDS TO COPY IT ONTO SILICON AT LEAST MANUFACTURING IS DOING INTERESTING THINGS IN PLASTIC BUT I DON'T KNOW IF IT WOULD BE IN FINE ENOUGH DETAIL.
