What did you do to find your dream and passion in life?

Currently I realized that I have no dream or passion in my life. Maybe that's why I felt lost, like I have no where to go, no destination at all.

When I was younger, I had passions and dreams. Like fashion, architecture, interior design, crafting, biology and so much more. I also dreamed to be a fashion designer, architecture, doctor and like lots other kids, be an astronaut.

But now, when I think of those (my old passions and dreams), its no longer give me the excitement feeling.

Maybe you guys can help me and maybe other people who still on their way to find their own dream and passion in their life.

Thanks :)

  • Oct 1 2013: Not sure I have yet...I just found things I thought I would like to do, and then did the work required to have the opportunity to do them.

I still look around. As my enthusiasm for a job diminishes, I look for something else that seems to be the right combination of what I can do, and what I want to do. If I am lacking a skill set, I do the work to get that skill set.

However, I usually make these decisions while engaged in a job. waiting for the perfect experience to come find you rarely occurs. You need to look for it, discover yourself and your true passions, do the work to put yourself in a position to get what you want, then be ready to jump when an opportunity presents itself that lets you accomplish more of your dream.

Oct 10 2013: Thank you to Yoka Feng, Tina Wang, Da Way, Riadh Boukratem, Robert Galway, Whisky Delta, Vijay Kumar, Shubham Mittal and manish khatri who already gave me great answer for my input (and hopefully for others who have the same problem as mine).

I do agree with Da Way that watching and listening to TED talks helped me to get inspired and I still have a lot to learn. :)

Accept this too! Life is not only running after your dream and passion. Take this present state of mind as a blessing Widya. Lucky are those, are enough with DREAMS, Now its time to WAKEUP. No matter how beautiful a dream is, its not the Real You. Did you notice, everyone is dreaming and thus sleeping. You think you are lost, aren't they lost widya. This world and worldly dreams must not be the aim of your life to live.

I suggest, do not invite dreams. Dreams are always like uninvited guests. Sooner or later they'll caught you. This is good opportunity, let it be,,, accept it. This also happening in life, in fact life is happening in you. Let the life live inside you. Enjoy these moments too widya... Do not afraid of getting lost, try not to control your life as it want you to wake up.

People tries hard to wake up and get rid of these dreams. What were you having in past? Dreams ! What you gonna have in future? Dreams. But, Right now (at present), Its a golden chance, to be yourself, to know Real you, isn't it Widya. You are not what you see yourself in dreams...

Soon, new dream will come to disturb you and you'll regret for this too. Do not waste these moments in thinking of your past or future dreams. Enjoy this wakefulness... Feel blessed... Sit calm with nature and life and smile on those are sleeping and dreaming :)

Oct 10 2013: Your passion is the reason you wake up in the morning, and just the thought of it can keep you up late with excitement. But not everyone knows exactly what his passion is right away. Don't worry -- whether you're looking for your passion to find a new career, or if you're looking to get completely immersed in a new hobby or activity, there are a number of things you can do to find your passion.

Think about what you love to do. To find your passion, you should first take a look at your own life and see if you're already doing something that you love -- but just not doing it very often. Figuring out what you really love to do and channeling it in a productive way that turns it into a passion can help you explore your heart's desires. Here are some of the things you should ask yourself when you brainstorm what you love to do:

    What are my goals?
If I could do one thing for the rest of my life, what would it be?
What do I love to do?
What would I do, even if I didn't get paid to do it?
What makes me feel like nothing else exists?
What activity makes me feel completely in my element?
Think about what you've always dreamed of doing. This is different from making a list of all of the things that make you happy. Here, you'll have to write down all of those things you've always dreamed about, but haven't done because you don't have the time, the money, or because they're impractical or even slightly scary. Here are the questions you should ask yourself as you brainstorm what you've always dreamed of doing:

What is the one thing I have always dreamed about, but never got to do?
What did I want to do when I was a child?
Do I have an impractical dream that I once abandoned?
Is there something I've been afraid to try because it takes me out of my comfort zone?
Is there something I've been wanting to do but haven't done because of financial fears?
Is there something I've always wanted to do but haven't tried because I've been afraid I'd fail or just not be very good at it

Oct 10 2013: Widya Halim... Passions have always been a gift of God. Based on our residual karma of the moment... we dreamt, pursued our inner passions! As we got more engrossed in day-to-day activities of life, we got farther and farther away from our true inner passions... dreams!

When young, a child I had a deep-rooted desire to see and meet God in this very life. Totally unaware what was meant by God Almighty, I wanted to know everything relating to God! By 13 years of age... my simple inner desire, passion turned to firm conviction. No matter what, in this very life I shall see and meet God.

Inherently I started travelling path of pure spirituality by remaining truthful always and ever in all walks of life. By remaining truthful all the time... I could hear the sweet small inner voice of my soul atman that seemed to come from within our heart! Before I could reach God... I had to have absolute faith in God Almighty. Furthermore, I believed in the fact that we were primarily a spirit, a soul atman... that undertook journey in human form.

No matter what the travails in my life... my search for God never got lost in trivialities of life. My goal of life always was clear... reach God in the shortest possible time! 25 years of yoga meditation, by pursuing path of absolute truthfulness all the time... I finally reached God in the wee hours of third of August 1993 at 37 years of age. This is my last manifestation on mother earth... 8.4 millionth manifestation, last in cosmic life cycle!

Path of spirituality is best detailed in sacred Bhagavad Gita of Hinduism. More on BhagavadGita - http://www.bhagavadgitasummary.com . A direct dictate from God Almighty "Truce with my Inner Self" is very enlightening - http://www.godrealized.org/truce_with_my_inner_self.html

Oct 1 2013: Get in touch with your inner child and don't box yourself in only one field (you never did as a kid, why do it now?).

Sep 30 2013: Not trying to kiss any asses here but listening to TED talks always makes me feel more passionate and inspired afterwards.
  • Sep 30 2013: Go out and try! I find it difficult to believe the truth of these dreams or passion if you do not have an ounce of experience in the said field. Many childhood dreams are simply misconceptions put into our heads by media without concrete understandings of the industry. I remembered applying to a job and was pondering if I should accept the offer since I was not sure if I would like it or not. My mother simply responded that how would I know if I do not even give it the slightest try? Another example is the motivation to get involved in theatre. This feeds in a positive loop that that I enjoy working in theatre, that I love going to theatrical shows, that I want to do theatre, that I am passionate about theatre. If you do not try, you will never know.

Sep 30 2013: Hello widya halim,

I'd like to advise you to meet and communicate with more people and try to do more different things as much as you can to diversify your life experiences, through which you may find your passion finally.:)

But actually if you can always find your peace in your heart without much ups and downs, it's also good ,I think. It depends on person's character.
