How do we bring an animal back when there is such a small gene pool?

If we take DNA from the limited number of preserved specimens and try to bring this animal back, how do we create a healthy breeding population based on the DNA of a few individuals?

  • Aug 5 2013: Splice that preserved species into an existing species. Perhaps the Dodo bird could use the DNA of a chickens. Similar to splicing a branch of one tree into another. If the species are very similar you might be able to do it.
