Best video game ever made?

This is a tough one for all you gamers out there! I want to know what people's favorite video game is!

Apr 28 2011: These are all solid answers. The question was meant to make you relive what made gaming special.

Apr 28 2011: What was yours dude
      • thumb
Apr 28 2011: Well I think probably the most addictive game of all time is World of Warcraft. I think the best FPS was Rainbow Six Vegas (It's just so much damn fun), I think the most classic game of all time was Super Mario Brothers, the best racing game of all time is Gran Turismo, the best sandbox game is GTA, the best sports game is Fight Night, and the best survival horror game is Resident Evil. The best game of all time....I have no idea haha
  • Apr 20 2011: My youngest memory is of me playing my old N64 (which i still have next to my TV) so video games are important to me.

My favorite game has to be "The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask" because the game is built out of pure character development, the dungeons don't seem forced; they actually seem important to the characters that live around it. In OoT the characters were faceless text in my eyes.

      Apr 28 2011: What about Mario 64?!?!
      • May 2 2011: i have super Mario 64 too, and i love it but its a platformer, i like mindless jumping but i prefer a plot, goal and other characters
  • thumb
Apr 14 2011: The Elder Scrolls Oblivion
    • thumb
Apr 28 2011: I liked that one at the time, but I liked Fallout 3 better.
      • thumb
Apr 28 2011: I agree, but for me there were similar problems. After some time playing the enemies became repetitive on both games.

Apr 13 2011: In South Korea, Starcraft !!!
    • Apr 14 2011: Yes!!!
    • thumb
Apr 28 2011: Starcraft is fun for sure. I think my main problem with it is I got into too late (years too late) so every time I try to play online some damn Korean dude pwns me in like 10 minutes.

    Apr 13 2011: all together, ff7
  • Apr 12 2011: Personally I think that for the game to be the best, it would have to have a set criteria. So i will set this criteria for me as, graphics, story (plot) development, character development, emotional investment in the conflict, believablity of the scenario, and the controls being easy to maneuver and fluid. By this criteria, I would say that Mass Effect 2 satisfies this criteria better than any other game.

      Apr 16 2011: Mass Effect 2?

You got emotionally invested in Mass Effect 2?
    • thumb
Apr 28 2011: Yeah I don't know about this whole Mass Effect 2 thing. I thought the original ME was sluggish and boring, with a generic sci-fi story that liked to ramble, so I never played ME2.
      • thumb
Apr 28 2011: i hated ME, but man you gotta play ME2. It's absolutely fantastic, seriously.
        • thumb
Apr 28 2011: haha okay you have convinced me then I will give it a try. If I hate it I will let you know why.
  • thumb
May 2 2011: Hey Guys, do you remember Alpha Centaury? and Dune2?

Starcraft is probably my favorite, also spent some time on Age2 (the prior and later versions I didn't like that much, the music in Age1 was cool, I had a friend that played it on his car 10+ ago)

May 2 2011: The Sims. It's really the only game I play religiously, but I loved playing Need for Speed (still do occasionally), Pokemon, and Mario Kart in the past.

I think these were awesome games that kept up with the changing times and also had impacts on my personal gaming experience. The Sims will always be #1 for me.

Apr 20 2011: I can't choose between R.E Code Veronica and MGS2: Sons of Liberty.
    • thumb
Apr 28 2011: Code Veronica was amazing
      • thumb
May 2 2011: i miss playing that kind o RE. I tried emulating RE zero on the pc, but it's not the same thing. The option of buying ammo on the newer RE's shattered the game's fun and psycho-terror. RE 4 is somewhat cool, but RE 5 is plain. I feel sad about that.

Apr 17 2011: I hate racers (all the same thing just evolved forms), and sport games (same as racers).

fighting games: Marvel vs. Capcom series

adventure: zelda series (favorite being ocarina of time)

shooters: i find first persons better and also that this category is impossible to select. Cod: Modern Warfare 2 is by far the best fps but not the first best one, the first greatest one would be counterstrike.

rpgs: again tough because now shooters have found their dirty way into this category, but final fantasy series (my favorite being 8)

    Strategy: Tetris.

Apr 28 2011: I gotta say my favorite fighting game has to be the Mortal Kombat series. My fave adventure game has gotta be Tomb Raider or Mario 64. Fantasy goes to WoW.
      • thumb
Apr 28 2011: Adventure: Tomb Raider over Zelda? And yeah maria 64 was my second thought.

Fighting: I was thinking street fighter originally when I saw how people were talking classic, but classics are good but not enough eye cancer.. er I mean candy for me.

Fantasy: WoW is good but it's child-proof now (since the last expansion) until end game and then that is just time consuming. You got to give fantasy to something that created a whole world and you are only able to see some places and do some actions, once.

Fantasy MMORPG = FF online series (difficult and semi-realistic) Free MMORP: Rohan
        Classic MMORPG: Star wars knights
Overall fantasy series: Breath of Fire
        • thumb
Apr 28 2011: I agree about Cataclysm. I think your criteria for fantasy is a little narrow though. But if we are counting MMORPG as a different category (which makes sense) then the Elder Scrolls series would have to be my Fantasy fave. I haven't played the FF MMO or really many MMOs outside of WoW (4 level 80s and 2 level 85s before I quit when I realized how shallow Cata was). I did play the Star Trek MMO (2 Admirals) but I can't consider that micromanaged trash a good game...I just really like Star Trek.

Apr 28 2011: Also Zelda I consider more of a puzzle RPG but even still I'm a bigger fan of Tomb Raider than Zelda.

Apr 28 2011: Crazy-ness on your part sir!

Apr 17 2011: Being a gamer over almost all of my life, this is an extremely hard question...

Let's see... I'm going to say the first production of games that made said series cool in my view.

Racing: "Need for speed III - Hot Pursuit". Yeah, it's old, but the soundtrack IMHO is the best ever made (followed only by NFS2's main menu track), and for its time, the game was pretty much the most realistic racing game out there. I actually have the soundtrack ripped and listen to it semi regularly. "Romulus 3" and "Triton" are my favorite pieces.

FPS: "Unreal Tournament" (the first one) - older than Quake 3, a bit more stiff, but IMHO a lot more fun, especially given the fact it has a larger number of nice levels.

RPG: "Fable". I still want the newer ones on PC, but they still aren't available unfortunately. "Diablo 2" is nice, but it's nothing when compared to "Fable" in my view.

Strategy: "Age of Mythology". Along with "Star Craft 2", that's the only strategy game I've ever beaten. I'm not sure which race is my favorite. They all have something cool about them. "Empire Earth" deserves an honorable mention between those two as my second favorite strategy game.

3rd person action: That's the toughest one. "Tomb Raider: Legend", "Legacy of Kain: Defiance", "Prince of Persia: Sands of Time" and "Assassin's Creed" are all equally worthy of my praise. I'll have to go with Assassin's Creed only because I'm currently playing "Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood", and it rocks.

Other genres: "Black & White". Epic soundtrack. Epic game play. Epic story. Epic... epicness. At the time, it was also excellent graphics.

Apr 28 2011: Dude Black and White was amazing. Fable I'm not a big fan of, I thought it was kind of shallow. Unreal Tournament was awesome but I still gotta say Rainbow Six Vegas was the most fun I had with a FPS. The old Hot Pursuit was really fun but I like my racing experiences to be more in depth rather than arcade (although Burnout Revenge was cool), so I gotta give it up to GT in that category. Forza was a little too stiff.

Apr 16 2011: Deadly serious question.

I have played many games in my day, and from every genre imaginable...so it's not surprising that I can't really give one simple answer to your query =/ I have a few picks for the best game of all time.

From the world of 32 bit games, I'd have to say Sonic the Hedgehog 2 and Streets of Rage were both quite excellent. These games were action packed, simple, and fun to play over and over again. They also had wicked awesome soundtracks.

From the world of FPS which pretty much dominates these days, I'd say that the best game is Quake Arena. Yeah. Quake Arena.....it's a rather old game, but it came around at a time when FPS was still charming to me. Now, I'm just finding these games really trite and uninspiring.

From the world of RPGs, there are so many to choose from! This is my favorite genre, but I will still only choose a couple: Fallout 3, and Persona 3. These games are about as different as night and day in their gameplay--F0 is a vast sandbox game with lots of guns, and Persona is a set-piece game where are playing a more traditional role. Both are great.

The best survival-horror game of all time, Imo, is the remake of Resident Evil for the Gamecube--probably not a game that many people have, but it's brilliant.

The best tactical game of all time is clearly, clearly every MSG title--sorry, but they are all so ingenious that I can't single one out!! They have beautiful soundtracks, and very provocative story lines.

The best racing game of all time is..................................I've never really played these kind, actually.

    Okay....I think that's it.

Apr 28 2011: You're a Sonic Man, I'm a Mario man. Fallout 3 was really fun man but the short story kind of irked me for such a large game. I had to buy all 5 expansion packs before I felt like I got a complete plot....that I don't like. On the other hand it was REALLY fun and I'm a sucker for dark themes. I haven't played Persona, but I will check it out. Survival horror has to go to Resident Evil: Code Veronica man...it personified everything great about the Resident Evil series before they took their shift in Resident Evil 4 towards a zombie action shooter. By MSG I assume you mean MGS, and while I enjoyed the MGS series, it's hard to call it a tactical shooter.
  • Apr 12 2011: "Warcraft 3: Reign of Chaos" for PC.
    • thumb
Apr 28 2011: When we are talking about RTS games, I gotta give it up to the C&C games man. Turn-based strategy is obviously the Civilization series.
