Ideas? Or force?

Ideas are very important to the shaping of society. In fact, they are more powerful than bombings or armies or guns. And this is because ideas are capable of spreading without limit. They are behind all the choices we make. They can transform the world in a way that governments and armies cannot. Fighting for liberty with ideas makes more sense to me than fighting with guns or politics or political power. With ideas, we can make real change that lasts.

  • Aug 31 2013: Our existence is based on the idea that we are Separate from one another and from Nature. It is the most fundamentally flawed idea that we all hold. It is the root of all violence and drives for power.

While ideas are important, DOUBT in Currently Held Ideas is Transformative. Doubt abounds. Doubt 'Clears out the House' for "new" ideas to percolate into awareness.

Entertain Doubt in your so called Separate existence. Don't rush it.

Consciousness is not partitioned. It just appears that way.
  • Aug 31 2013: Someone, somewhere had an idea. The idea to make the gun.

"With ideas, we can make real change that lasts. In fact, they are more powerful than bombings or armies or guns"

You missing the fact that with nuclear weapons that we can destroy the whole planet, that's a pretty powerful idea.
  • Aug 26 2013: Basically, Idea is the vision and the gun is the mission. A clear example of that is Hitler. Hitler has idea to make Aryan people as the number 1 race on the planet, and his way to make his idea happen is by using force or the dark force. Anyone should have the force to make his idea happen, either a dark force or white force.
  • Aug 13 2013: "The pen is mightier than the sword." Physical things are important but what dominate our whole thought and body is some kind of consciousness. We need to shape the sociery where human can suggest novel ideas without any limits.
Better world could be gained by our efforts!
  • Aug 5 2013: ideas are important and with the methods of communication, it makes ideas even more important. But you need force to protect ideas - if you do not believe that, ask the carthaginians or anywhere genocide was done.

The Arab Spring is another prime example where ideas started it and force was needed to complete/protect the idea.
  • Aug 3 2013: Yes ideas matter, they make real changes in the human world because humans can change their lives because of them. Take for example the idea of "multiply and subdue the earth" or "we are the chosen people", let people take such ideas to heart and you end up with an uncontrolled exploitation of the planet which is close to a stage where it becomes unliveable or to a state where wars and hatred can be perpetuated because everyone else is inferior to us. Then there are ideas which say that all must be treated equal, this leads to a change in society as well. However what really matters here is not to absorb ideas as if they are the be all and end all, if you do this then change or adaptation is hindered and conflicts arise as reality no longer matches the idea. This is swhy in science new ideas are always necessary.

Aug 2 2013: Is your plan to rid the planet of socio/economic/military force by replacing it with ideas?
  • Aug 2 2013: Ideas play really vital role in our society. These days, I think that there should be firm systems which make sure one's intellectual property. Ideas are invisible so they are easy to imagine but hard to be protected unless they are registered. An novel idea come from attitudes that people cherish them.

Can the idea of "invalid (harmful) happiness"
    change our world?
