How would you summarily describe the human species?

I am looking for a concise, pithy description, a single phrase or sentence.

Please consider both positive and negative human behaviors.

An example: The human species is the most trainable species of the great apes.

When my grandchildren graduate for college and then ask me, "Grandpa, who are we, we humans?" How should I start to answer?

Jun 30 2013: i've said it before somewhere:

humanity is a cesspool of talent.

the most beautifully flawed creatures, forever short-circuiting our ability to reason with emotion and our desire to create because of the ease with which we can destroy.

more than ever before, it is our flawed nature that makes us perfect. it defeats soul-less systems; it is what truly makes us all equal and most importantly, gives us the desire to rise above and become better than we are.

You bring a unique, if narrow, point of view to the conversation. I can now understand your remark about not bothering about my kids. I find it interesting that you have such confidence in your control of your life.

Tell your grandchildren that it has not been understood yet, it's what they have to figure out.

    • Jun 29 2013: "don't bother about your kids."

Do you have children? That would be impossible.

        • Jun 29 2013: Your enthusiasm is impressive, but you missed by point.

When you wrote "don't bother about your kids" you immediately lost all credibility with me.

My children are not a bother, but they and their children are the most precious part of my life, and I hope to assist my grandchildren in a good start.
