Is it really impossible to eradicate an idea from someone's mind, if it sticks very tight

An idea is like a virus. Resilient. Highly contagious. And even the smallest seed of an idea can grow. It can grow to define or destroy you.Once an idea has taken hold of the brain it's almost impossible to eradicate. An idea that is fully formed, fully understood.

A dialogue which is taken from the movie - INCEPTION, I am just thinking is this statement really meaningful because I believe we know what is good for us and what is bad, how An idea can take control of your decisions... ????

Here I want to ask -Can any Idea be really dangerous if it sticks in your mind with some solid logic so that you just make your mind to just follow that idea without considering the near future results (Consider a phenomenon like addiction).

Jun 17 2013: Is hypnosis is a right practice as a treatment for this type of problems, like if someone is just psychologically addicted to smoking and he/she feels that this bad habit is ruining his/her personal and social life but the addiction is so strong that person is not able to get rid of it, I don't consider Electroconvulsive Therapy as good as compare to Hypnosis. Any improvement to this talk will be appreciated....

Jun 17 2013: Well, of course an idea can be dangerous if you don't have a skeptical attitude toward it, if you don't continue to question yourself. How can you even ask, Deepak, how could there be any question of that?

Jun 16 2013: Ideas can stick, surely, but techniques like cognitive behavior therapy have been successful in altering the way people with mild depression and sometimes even moderate depression interpret the situations of their lives. So change or modulation are possible as well.

People also change their minds independently in reaction to new observations ad insights.

We can "eradicate" any "idea from our mind"!

Even from our soul (instinct data and pre-instinct data),
    by poly-repetition.

  • Jun 17 2013: Yes but:

It depends on the person with the idea, and it depends on the idea, and it depends on who is trying to eradicate the idea, the means available, and the levels of skill, determination, and control.

You did not make it clear that the person attempting eradication has benign intentions. Torture can eradicate ideas, but it is not very efficient or reliable, and the effect may not last very long.

Many ideas can be really dangerous. When people do anything, for any reason, without considering the near future results, we call that either foolishness or insanity.
