How can I start a recycling program and reduce waste in my hospital?
I work in one of Australia's busiest hospitals and our resource consumption is extraordinary (and upsetting). None of our waste is recycled, from the hundreds of cardboard boxes a day filled with stock, small plastic wastes and even paper! The argument against is 'contamination', yet most of our waste never comes into contact with patients directly. Is this a legit argument? And what can one nurse do to change this?
Answers that could help might direct me to hospitals that have done this successfully, institutions that could assist/advise, and what things I have to consider overcoming...
