Create an online community to share art/entertainment that people have created or found that have helped them through stress.

Hello,

This is my first TED conversation. I am a recent high school graduate who is very passionate about filmmaking, music and other forms of art.

My idea is to help people through art by letting people share their own forms of art that they've created or post links to photos/videos that have helped them through stress or difficult situations. I have just started a small Facebook group where I hope to do just that. https://www.facebook.com/groups/570984432935505/571010386266243/ I would also like to create a website at some point, but I'm not sure the best way to design it.

I have personally dealt with quite a lot of stress and anxiety in my life, and find that when I'm dealing with stress it's hard to find things to watch or listen to help me laugh or calm down. If we could create a list of resources that could grow I think we could help a lot of people.

Thank you for your time,

- Levi

  • May 8 2013: Hi Levi!
I believe nothing is as therapeutic as expressing yourself through art, in any form. Sounds like a great idea.
It sounds like this site would be purely to serve the purpose of expression, not a place to actually sell or purchase art?
  • May 8 2013: There is so much out there. Maybe you just haven't found it. Stress - Well I am sure you can find it, or create your own collection. I recently found a poetry collection by insane, drugged, and depressed poets. The editor thought he was doing something unique, but he included most of our favorites. Stress is something different, but make your list and collect what you wish. However, read You Don't Understand Me by Keirsey - Do Dionysians or Artisans get stressed more or less than others? Do you want good art or whatever? Last time I was talking to one of the employees of the Modern Art Museum in Fort Worth I remarked that several artists had been so young when they died. He said "Oh that guy drank himself to death like the others." Is that stress or just addiction? Godspeed.

May 8 2013: I remarkable proportion of Abstract Expressionist artists committed suicide. The artist population with the highest proportion of individuals who are bipolar, though, is lyric poets.

A good book on this, for anyone interested in it, is Kay Jamison's Touched with Fire.
