Conciousness does matter.

The following is taken from the physicist Dr. Amit Goswami:

"Materialist science is not the whole picture. What do we mean by materialist science? Materialist science takes it as its basic axiom that everything is matter. We have literally managed to train a whole generation of students on the idea that everything is material, but this Newtonian world view that has shaped our understanding for centuries is now giving way to the revelations of quantum physics which goes beyond materialism; to show that consciousness, not matter, is the ground of all being"

"You can call it God if you want, but you don’t have to. Quantum consciousness will do. Nonlocality (We are all interconnected - even without signals, and experimental evidence is proving our inherent unity.), tangled hierarchy (In our brain, we become one with the neuronal images of an external object because of a tangled-hierarchy, a circularity. The observer is the observed.), and discontinuity (The discovery of something new of value in thought is a quantum leap of Aha! insight.): these signatures of quantum consciousness have been independently verified by leading researchers worldwide. This experimental data and its conclusions inform us that it is the mistaken materialist view that is at the center of most of our worlds problems today. To address these problems, we now have a science of spirituality that is fully verifiable and objective."

From Wikipedia:

"Monistic Idealism states that conciousness, not matter, is the ground of all being. Idealism asserts that consciousness is teh fundamental entity of the universe. Conciousness creates matter, it is the fundamental wellspring from which reality is create."

I stumbled upon this when watching the documentary the "Quantum Activist". I became incredibly intrigued and I am interested in hearing what the TED community has to say about this revolutionary concept in quantum physics.

  • May 4 2011: I reccomend to everyone intersted in this subject to seek out A B Purani's set of lectures on Sri Aurobindos 'Life Divine' . These lectures were delivered in the US originally and are a concise explicade of the vast work.

Consciousness research is happening in an understated manner in the US already with testing being done to ascertain the effectiveness of meditation in dealing with stress related illness. Granted its monetarily motivated since the US economy spends billions each year providing health care for stressed out patients, but at least its a start.

The yogis in the east are capable of things we can not believe possible through intuitionally directed practice, but still they have not the intellection and material 'know-how' that exists in the west. For progress in these fields 'the twain' shall have to meet, establish dialoge, and become more open to each others modality of perception so that we can make mutual use of our respective natural heritage and move toward a balanced future.

Apr 17 2011: Each time we are mindfully present to any one or anything without need attachment ego judgment or fanatasy we create the possibility of opening the portal within us that is pure consciousness. That is, we create the possibility within us of fusing wisdom and intuition. We create the possibility within us and amongst us that we will not just observe what is but will be able to participate in the creation of what will be. We create the possibility of transcending the intellects predilection to, and preoccupation with, what is illumined and are able to form the possibility of acting from within the light itself. But it is only through the action that we can realize that possibility and become actual participants in creating what will be that we actually become the creation. Consciousness must result in action to have an effect in shaping what will be.

Apr 9 2011: I would go as far as to say 'Consciousness is matter'
    • Apr 11 2011: What makes you say that?

Apr 17 2011: ..how about that all matter is condensed consciousness ( we already know that all matter is condensed energy..for a few of us hermeticists it is not that far to the idea that all matter is condensed consiousness)

    • Apr 6 2011: Thanks. Personally, I am not sure how I feel about "collective conciousness". Is it in our best interests to have shared beliefs and morals? Is not each human unique? Everyone thinks differently.

Also, what do you mean by "...and it does energy...and it does mattter...as infinitum."?
