Blending the plains-ape and aquatic-ape theories of human evolution

It is known that upright apes inhabited the great rift valley in Africa at a time when the habitat was a patchwork of forest and grasslands. I would predict that the habitat in that area immediately before that resembled a mangrove swamp, patches of trees divided by waterways... and then the water receded.

  • Apr 15 2013: I would have to ask them. Okay, seriously Lucy etc. were so long ago that to find a fossil connection between an earlier ape (pre-human) seems dubious to me. Maybe I am being unreasonable, but when told how Neanderthals became extinct, I feel the back of my head for my occipatal bun or whatever it's called. Many people have them and they were unique to Neanderthals.
