How do you green your event?

With thousands of TEDx events happening annually now, our gatherings can have a large impact if we model sustainability in its evolving nature.
How would you communicate and add to these greening techniques:
venue & location
consumables & food
reuseables & sets
power & carbon
waste & recycling
measurement & data
learning & improving
promotion & partnerships

Please share your Xperiences and links.

I believe I can live by "modeling sustainability in its evolving nature"
to save about 90% of energy and resources,
by means of reducing or quitting invalid (ineffective) happiness.

I think about 90% of our happiness is invalid, ineffective and
    harmful for keeping our DNA alive;
and thus wasting about 90% of energy and resources,

Apr 18 2013: Can you say more about ineffective happiness and how specifically you are saving 90% of energy and resources? Thanks and modeling is such a double sided learning, both in the doing and in the sharing! Thanks.

        Thanks!

        I believe:

        (1) On ineffective happiness :

Our life goal is to keep our DNA alive is the short-time feeling of things
being a-step-better for keeping our DNA alive .
        .

Valid (effective) happiness is the short-time feeling of things
being a-step-better for keeping our DNA alive .

This feeling is one of our instincts .
Instincts are our ancestors successful experiences saved in our DNA .

Invalid (ineffective) happiness is the is the short-time feeling of “new” things
“being a-step-better for keeping our DNA alive”
out of the “valid scope” of this instinct formed 10,000 years ago .

We are unable to detect it intuitively
because we have not bio-evolved to renew our instinct to detect it.

This invalid happiness is harmful in most cases .
E.g. when taking junk food, drinking alcohol, wearing clothes not for protection,
... making too much money to cause greed, inequality, crimes, wars,
        ... “unsustainable” world.

        (2) On “saving about 90% of energy and resources” :

To keep our DNA alive healthily in most cases, without invalid happiness,
        will cost only about $400/ year-person .
It means we can save more than “about 90% of energy and resources” .

        Am I wrong ?
