Will sometime in the future, the human race would see itself as one nationality?

At the distent past people saw themself as part of a tribe, then as a city state and so on societies conjoined. But the problom is that everytime it happend it was due to external power. Either a strong conqueror absored them, or they united to fight him.

This is why, to my belief, only a successful alien invasion will unite the human race. Because after a failed one we are too likely to go back to fighting each other. Irregardless to this very unlikley scenerio, Is sometime in the future, the human race will see itself as one nationality?

Apr 14 2013: I sincerely hope not. I believe humanity's success lies in its diversity. Our vastly different perspectives give us the opportunity of greater choices in problem solving. Oneness, in the sense of 'one nationality' or singular vision, leads to groupthink.

Apr 13 2013: There are indications that it will. But before that we will suffer for some time more. Such view will not govern us by result of wisdom but as our very necessity to survive as a species.
  • Apr 13 2013: Adir, I really sympathize with your question and mostly agree with your view of hopelessness. Let me tell you my observations throughout the history. When there were only towns and villages during the agriculture societies. There were always fights among different groups with hoes and machetes because they were from different ancestors. When there are nations with too many people, there were wars between the nations in addition to battles within the nations. The wars could be due to different religions, but could also between two branches within the same religion. In my opinion, it really was derived from the inherent mistrust of a group of people against another group; such as among neighbors, sometimes even among brothers or cousins. And there were very few incidence that such fights can be stopped by a third party in arbitration. Sadly, I have to say that this is probably due to the human nature of selfishness and competitiveness, instead of love and harmony.
Let's look at the view on the possibility of an alien visitor/invader (I will prefer the former designation). The problem is that, even if it's benevolent in intention, we humans will most likely to resist when it decided to control our psychology of selfishness or competitiveness. Just look at all the films having "alien"characters in them. Most of them ended with the aliens being driven off or annihilated. If there were a few successful (in establish peace and harmony among us) alien stories, there weren't many viewers wanted to see them, so they probably won't be included in our libraries or our memory.
Through the 5000 years of our recorded history, I really couldn't say that we, the humans on earth, have any historical improvement in love and harmony to speak of. Our lives seem always in chaos and mutual hatred, I am sad to say.
  • Apr 12 2013: Thank you for your question Adir.

I am optimistic that the Internet and globalization will help humans to evolve and become enlightened to the fact that the earth, all life on it, and the universe, is one organism and that we're all inter-connected with, and inter-dependent on each other. We'll awaken to the fact that nationality and the borders that divide people are mental concepts that must be removed in order for us to not just maintain the survival of our species but to thrive with peace, abundance and happiness.

Apr 12 2013: Maybe, hopefully, but I'm pessimistic.
Judging by the past, no one has ever united without an external threat. People always had someone defied as the anamy: this is how the neandrathals, homo erectus and many more got extinct. I was wondering what it would take, without the external enmy.
      • Apr 13 2013: Thank you Adir.

The most damaging to harmony within the human race is nationalism. A relatively small number of individuals manage society as proxies for the masses, and direct world events from a perspective that is quite alien to most people. Much of their knowledge has been restricted to what they are told by politicians and the media, and their opinions are carefully molded to serve whatever is in the best interests of the elite.

For the first time, people from all nations are united by the Internet. We do not have to rely on information provided by politicians and our national media. We can communicate in real time with people from all over the world. We can build relationships with people from all over the world. We can seek the truth. Remove ignorance and along with it, beliefs, prejudice and fear.

What are we when ignorance, beliefs, prejudice and fear are removed ? We are love.

This is why I am optimistic.

        Peace and love

Apr 16 2013: Anthropogenic global warming is the external enemy that was created from within...
    • Apr 14 2013: Thats a romantic notion but come on. Do you think we have the capacity for it? We are hard-wired organisms designed to thrive survive and compete.. i know a bummer right. Picture this; 6 billion hippies on earth laughing loving and meditating and then a group of Fascists, very small in number, come and conquer the world. We are always going to have a need to be vigilant and we will always compete and divide ourselves into groups. Its just our nature. This is earth not hippie love-land and never will be, sorry.
      • Apr 14 2013: You clearly believe in creationism for if you believed that we are still evolving you could not adopt such fixed ideas as to our potential. We are designed to survive like all other organism, nationalism, fascism, capitalism, racism, sexism, species-ism are all concepts created by ignorance and none are sustainable for the long term survival of our species.

We once ALL believed the earth was round and slavery was around for thousands of years.

One thing is for sure, there is no permanence... not even you. One day you will die, and along with you your fixed ideas as to your own and the human race's potential.
        • Apr 14 2013: Yes the soft wiring of our brain changes significantly over even short period of time but hard wiring not so much. Through nurture we may widely accept your hippie idealism but we by nature will remain creatures driven by sex and aggression atleast for awhile. Plus I don't think evolution has a global Marxist agenda

Apr 16 2013: This is a very excitting and intresting topic to me. Honestly i guess i would say i wouldnt be surprised if the human race did not last to the year 3013. We will not survive in the way we are, broken and divided. We cant divide our own race and pin 2 or 3 superpower sides against eachother only to destroy ourselves in the end. This question or discussion really became prominant after WWII, when we developed the ability to wipeout humanity. Now a new face to the discussion comes about with the increase beliefs or thoughts on actually being visted and or attacked by other beings not from earth. What will happen inbetween now and 3013? If we dont see ourselves as members of mankind, homo sapiens, people of earth, instead of americans, russians, or chinese, i dont think we will make it. Wether we fight with eachother and destroy ourseves, or disease ravishes our population, or natural diasters or astroids deliever the blow, if we cant band together we may not being able to survive and defeat these problems. One concern that may come up however is that really all of our human advancements and breakthroughs come from the ashes of war, and other issues. We push ourselves to inovate to survive, basically like evolution. Well we know how to survive. We can sustain food, pass on our genes, so the only time we really truelly get a chance to push the barriers is from war and natural diaster conflicts. So reall are we stuck? If we dont push forward and inovate as one race we will perish, and the only way we push is through conflict, yet it seems we are not ready for that next big thing (world war, nuclear war, alien invasion) and that we would perish if that thing came anytime soon. Hmm tough topic to think about huh? It seems were in a race agaisnt time as homo sapiens, although our dominant time here has been but a blink of an eye, it wont last much longer if we dont make considerable global-team earth/team humanity efforts.

Apr 16 2013: Not one nationality but just one humanity!
  • Apr 14 2013: While it is true that we as a species have been hard-wired for agression over millions of years and have developed the tendency to operate within tribes, this was a means of achieving a greater personal survival rate. Tribes had a tendency to attack their neighbors to secure greater quantities of food etc.

However, as the world becomes smaller through globalisation, we're realising that the earth provides more than enough to support all our lives if the system of management is better. There will be more and more wars in the short term over competition for resources that's for sure. But mankind will realise that wars do not equate to survival and our survival instinct will cause a re-wiring for cooperation.

The current financial system will collapse fairly soon and will be replaced with a proper economy.

Unlike you I do believe that we are headed for a global socialist agenda. The United nation's Agenda 21 is proof enough of that. It is certainly needed in order to maintain the survival of our species, short term.

However, short-sighted in-out politics will eventually be replaced by a more effective form of management. Scientists, aided by Technology will one day provide that better system of management as it will look at longer term goals and sustainability.

The key is survival. As the population grows and we become a more global, rather than localized species, our survival instinct will push us into a stage of evolution dominated by science and technology.

Without in-out politics and the indoctined concept of nationality, we could become humans from planet earth.

Apr 14 2013: Adir, This is quite possible. We are now entering into what I will call the "Golden Man Era". The clear line between black, white, red, yellow described races has almost vanished. Tribes realized that inbreeding caused very specific and undesirable problems so they raided other tribes for wives. the purity of any race or tribe is questionable. As this continues and the color of skin and feature blend we will see less and less of the current hostilities.

The factor that stands in the way of integration is religion, politics, and greed. These will keep people divided for the forseeable future. To bad.

    I wish you well. Bob.

  • Apr 13 2013: If we could put a man on the moon, we could................ That was a long time ago. The ideal of the brotherhood of man has moved to science fiction except if you choose to be that kind of person, but you will not join a large group. Godspeed.
