taking our country back

I agree with Warren on this. We need to get it organized. Warren Buffett, in a recent interview with CNBC, offers one of the best quotes about the debt ceiling ...
"I could end the deficit in 5 minutes," he told CNBC.
"You just pass a law that says that any time there is a deficit of more than 3% of GDP, all sitting members of Congress are ineligible for re-election."
The 26th amendment (granting the right to vote for 18 year-olds) took only 3 months and 8 days to be ratified! Why?
Simple! The people demanded it.
That was in 1971 - before computers, e-mail, cell phones, etc.
Of the 27 amendments to the Constitution, seven (7) took one (1) year or less to become the law of the land all because of public pressure.
Warren
Buffet is asking each addressee to forward this email to a minimum of twenty people on their address list; in turn ask each of those to do likewise.
In three days, most people in The United States of America will have the message.
This is one idea that really should be passed around.
Congressional Reform Act of 2012
1. No Tenure/No Pension
A Congressman/woman collects a salary while in office and receives no pay when they're out of office.
2. Congress (past, present & future) participates in Social Security.
All funds in the Congressional retirement fund move to the Social Security system immediately.
All future funds flow into the Social Security system, and Congress participates with the American people. It may not be used for any other purpose.
3. Congress can purchase their own retirement plan, just as all Americans do.
4. Congress will no longer vote themselves a pay raise.
Congressional pay will rise by the lower of CPI or 3%.
5. Congress loses their current health care system and participates in the same health care system as the American people.
6. Congress must equally abide by all laws they impose on the American people.
7. All contracts with past and present Congressmen/women are void effective 12/1/12.

Apr 13 2013: I think Warren is assuming that persons receiving this email will contact their elected representatives urging support for the Act. Ooops! Fundamental error. Most people wouldn't open the email, those who did wouldn't finish reading it, those who did wouldn't notify their reps. because they have no idea how to, those who do notify their reps. did not need the chain letter because they have already taken appropriate action as responsible, informed citizens. Most people don't care. Ignorance and apathy rules in the proletariat.

Apr 12 2013: ZX if we can get people to stand together and realize we are the people even if we do not have the most wealth to buy our way to the top. We need the people that think their voice is not important to stand up now and realize we have a free country with freedoms that our founding Fathers fought hard to get in place and I will not stand by one more day letting the Constitution be ripped apart one line at a time. There is strength in numbers and we need to quit letting the leaders lie to us and tell us we do not know what is best for us!

Apr 12 2013: We need to start somewhere and there is no reason for anyone to be in Congress for more than two terms. Get them in there and let them do their work then get some new ideas going with new people. The reason the tail is wagging the dog is because most voters are uninformed or apathetic and fall for the line,"You need me and my experience to represent your views." When was the last time your views were even a part of the posturing and vote getting that Congress is so worried about. The Sequester is hurting most of America and the Congress is exempt and not hurting in the least. I am an educator and I have worked hard to get where I am coming from a custodian to now a school counselor for the last 15 years and yes Mr. President, I did build that and I have worked hard to keep it going!

Apr 13 2013: "voters are uninformed" and that is the problem, if they were informed they would not be apathetic. Are the better students in your school apathetic?

It is not in the politicians interest to have informed voters.

The sequester is quite insignificant compared to the size of the debt.

Odgen is the big city compared to the town I was born in Ely.

Apr 12 2013: Yup you can come up with all kinds of ideas it doesn't matter because the tail is wagging the dog. Until we educate the dog these ideas are superfluous. Not to mention that Warren Buffet is the same guy who endorses more taxes and misleading people by saying he pays less taxes than his secretary while not mentioning that he lives off his investments not his salary.

Apr 11 2013: These are all excellent ideas, and many of them were included in the GOP's 1994 Contract with America, which the Democrats prevented from becoming law.

Apr 15 2013: Last I checked the GOP was in power for eight of the past 19 years...Could have passed it into law at any time during their reign.
