Is achieving true happiness the point of life?

The question is simple.

  • Mar 31 2013: I think achieving happiness is the point of life, but what constitutes as happiness will probably change from an individual to another. That said, we should strive to understand what true happiness is for us and then work from there to achieve it.
  • Mar 31 2013: The point of your life is whatever you choose it to be.
  • Mar 31 2013: I think happiness is the point of life.

Mar 31 2013: Scott, this is a very intriguing comment. Wouldn't it be true that happiness is the goal for everybody, that it doesn't really matter who you are?
      • Mar 31 2013: Happiness is our natural state. It is natural to seek it. It is common to all. What do most people naturally do when they clearly perceive that they have a common goal?

Mar 31 2013: Are you trying to say we should work together to achieve happiness?

Mar 31 2013: Achieving happiness is the result of life. Happiness can only be achieved if balance is achieved. Contemporary people and contemporary societies rarely provide the opportunity for happiness. Thus, happiness is to be pursued by the individual. An individual's choices and aspirations as well as the actions contribute towards the balance of one's character. Therefore, if one can manage his/her own actions and aspirations in order to be balanced, this means one is living striving to be happy. Happiness is the result of life and not the means of living.

Mar 31 2013: Happiness or something similar. I often think the thing to cultivate in life is a mild sweetness, which isn't exactly happiness but not too distant.
  • Mar 31 2013: So....... the point of all life is reproduction.

Mar 31 2013: Are you disagreeing with the fellow who started the conversation, Nathan? It seems to me the viewpoints go together, you're happy when you're reproducing.
  • Mar 31 2013: Reproduction is the point. How else we pose to evolve around here?
    • Mar 31 2013: Why evolve?
    • thumb
Mar 31 2013: Nathan, reproduction and species evolution can't be the whole point, can it? We also want some happiness for ourselves right here, right now, don't we, not just to know that five generations down the line our line evolved.
