Apr 6 2013: The Terms of Use posted for TED conversations states the following:

"4. By inviting you to participate in TEDTalk comments and TED Conversations, we are seeking to build a mature online community centered around ideas that matter. Please be aware, when participating, that we will remove: content promoting pseudo-science, conspiracy theories, zealotry, proselytizing, self-promotion, product-hawking, and new-age fluff"

By permitting Suzanne Taylor to continue posting content promoting pseudoscience in the form of advertising for the West Hollywood event and its associated activities (including the Live Stream feed), TED is violating its own stated terms of use. These posts should be flagged as inappropriate and removed.

TED has a system for rating comments and conversations. As it states:

"Flag as abuse: Spam or inappropriate comments (racism, obscenity or personal attacks, as outlined in our terms of use) can be anonymously reported to our comment moderators via the 'Flag as abuse' button.'

TED has not explicitly defined "spam," but I think repeated, daily postings of advertisements for a non-TED-affiliated event constitutes spam and do not belong in this conversation. I will continue to flag them as such.

Please note that the Terms of Use for TED conversations also prohibit personal attacks. I think we have all seen multiple examples of those in this conversation and I would like to ask TED Conversations staff to be especially vigilant and responsive in enforcing their own stated policies. Postings of spam and personal attacks should be flagged as inappropriate and removed.
    • Apr 6 2013: John, valid sentiments, but but at present baseless and unverified.
    • Apr 6 2013: Because these terms like 'pseudoscience' are completely up for abuse, as it stands, I see no place for an open debate about their meaning and definition here. Nothing but politics. Bye.

Apr 6 2013: Amfortas, how can you see no place for open debate? You're in it. It's here.

Apr 6 2013: What is the TCM site? Who is blocking it?

I've had occasional problems with uploading posts, but I've assumed the problem was on my end. When my posts are deleted (due to deletion of the posts to which they are replies), I get a standard notification via email from TED Conversations. When there is a problem with content, I also get a standard email notification.

Are you logged in with a correct email address? Are you checking your email? If not, you wouldn't receive an email message when a post is deleted.
        • Apr 6 2013: Theory of Condensed Matter at Cambridge. Professor Josephson and 60 other researchers, one of the highest regard physics groups. See top level posting. Sorry, I was a bit snarky going there at you too. I will edit this out. But tell me what you think.

        Apr 6 2013: Without the spaces: http://www.tcm.phy.cam.ac.uk/

        Works fine for me:

"Theoretical Condensed Matter physics is about building models of physical processes, often driven by experimental data, generalising the solutions of those models to make experimental predictions, and transferring the concepts gained into other areas of research. Theory plays an important role in understanding known phenomena and in predicting new ones."
        • Apr 6 2013: This is getting more funny by the minute.

It does *not* work for me! It first displays my comment with the link, but then removes whole comment, it is not visible after reload of page! Do you have special powers here?? :)

Apr 6 2013: Do you see the spaces in the URL you just posted? It shouldn't have any spaces and won't work if it has them.
