Interactive Educational interface

Educational resources are falling behind the fast-growing area of technology, I propose a personalised tutor which would be based off a students learning style and personality. The software would focus on a core component of learning (literacy or numeracy) and would combine all current resources on the subject to provide the student with a fully informed learning experience. Would like to make it interactive through google glass and kinect so it is more like augmented reality than a computer program. Students would be able to ask the program questions and it would respond in ways best suited to the students learning style. A risk/reward system would be implemented for motivational purposes,
This idea is early in the forming stage. The data from these students would be fed through the program to ensure it is up to date and moreover, could be fed to schools/governments in order to provide quality, real time data on students.

Looking for constructive criticism and have a number of questions I would like help with answering:
- is a similar software out there?
- is google glass a feasible option?
- how far away are holographic experiences?
- What should the target trident group be?

  • Mar 25 2013: I think this is a really cool idea. I think a few factors that you have to take into consideration are.

    -How do you find out a students particular learning style and personality? How adaptive can you make a learning style, since each individual might learn subjects at different rates. I know that in Math, I have to be reinforced with spacial as well as visual context, and in something like biology I don't.

    - Is the learning direction more user based or driven by the tutor? Some days I really don't want to work on a particular subject, but I will surf websites like TED for hours learning new information. If a student doesn't want to learn a particular subject, do you inspire them? Motivate them? Back off and let them take the wheel for awhile? I feel like it would be very interesting to see what type of information an 8 year old would want to know without any direction given to him or herself.

    - People are motivated by different things. How are you going to pinpoint what motivational factor works best for an individual?

    - Who is in charge of the information given to the child? The parents? The local school systems? The people bankrolling the operation?

    Making technology that is adaptive to not just one child, but is individualized to every single child is a very daunting, but very worthwhile goal to achieve. All in all, I wish you the best of luck, since if something like this became feasible it would change education drastically.

    Mar 23 2013: Here is the problem that I see (though I think that you have pretty much outlined the direction we are going).

    Who get's to determine the agenda? If government is to be the arbiter, then nothing is much improved except perhaps the economy. EXAMPLE: If you go to the US government's eduation web site, and attempt to learn about US history, you will find provable lies. You will find the Federalist Papers highlighted and no mention of the Anti-Federalist papers. But the thing is that the Federalist Papers were a FAILED argument. The Anti-Federalists won the day, which is why we have a Bill of Rights. But in a never-mentioned coup d'etat, the Supreme Court elevated itself, threw out the Constitution as the law of the land, and turned a very limited treaty organization into an all-powerful government. Now we have a whole generation of people who are looking at serious problems in our government and are unable to see how to fix that which is fixable because they have been taught that government works in a way that it cannot work.

    Mind control can be a dangerous thing. That is the core issue.

    It's rather like TED, who images itself as an organization that supports ideas worth spreading. But that's not what they are. They have blacklisted any TED talk that speaks of neuroscience - that it calls psuedoscience, and it does not allow any of the new scientific research that shows that our fundamental understanding of life itself is in error. By doing this, it promulgates errors in order to sustain a power-hierarchy paradigm that harms most people.

    Our government is so corrupt that it cannot be trusted with our minds. It has proven this quite clearly, and there is documentary evidence that you are not told about (but that is findable on the Net) that proves this.
