Is the gut the key to disease?

There are more receptors in the gut that affect the brain than the entire body combined. Many researchers believe the entire immune system is affected more by gut health than all other systems in the body. They believe that all diseases, including autism, stroke, autoimmune diseases, heart disease, mental illness, and cancer could be dramatically reversed if more attention were paid to the gut. This would indicate that the leading cause of all disease lies in the damage to the gut. It is theorized by leading researchers that healing the gut will reverse the trend for most diseases. What are some of the damages that you think cause the most harm? How do you think the problem can be resolved? Do you believe this theory is an exaggeration? What do you believe is the core issue of healing?

    Mar 22 2013: I will speak from experience, and I hesitated about responding here, but then i just thought I could only speak from my conditions and situations.

    My son has Aspergers, we tried the gluten free, no sugar, it did nothing for him... He is a good kid, just socially akward, but what 17yo boy isn't I suppose.

    I have some chronic issues and I know when I eat "close to the ground" (meat and veggies only, NOTHING PROCESSED, NO SUGAR) I feel enormously better. But its weird, when I first started this food experiment journey, it was used for weight loss. I succeeded very well. Lost a lot of weight in a fairly short amount of time (about 30lbs in 3 months). I felt better, my joints ached less, i had less head aches, I had MUCH more energy, may nails grew better, my hair seemed shinier...

    Then came a 3 week break, between my old job, and the one where I am now. I became unfocused and lazy. I slowly started eating the junk again. It seemed to creep back up on me. After that 3 week break, I had gained some of my weight back (not all of it) and I felt horrible! I couldn't sleep, no energy. I only moved my bowels 2x a week (tmi, but true) So that is obviously not healthy!

    Well, I am going through "detox" and yes, that is what it feels like. I quit eating processed foods (breads, cereals, etc...) I watch my carbs and keep them between 30-60 grams a day (my doc said this was okay) I max my calories at 1200 (also okayed by my doctor) and I am what I can call nothing else but a food hangover. Our body comes to crave this stuff. So anyhow...I don't know about others, and I can only speak for myself, but when I eat better, I feel better, and when I feel better, that leads to less aches, pains, a better attitude, etc...

    So i did not look at your references or anything, as i am not a scientific thinker. I have to feel, see, and experience something before I feel qualified to comment on it. That is how i learn about things. i only speak from my experiences.

      Mar 24 2013: We have seen complete restoration of normal health, including all forms of autism, weight issues, if you will include the right type of enzymes and soil based probiotics, fermented foods and detox of all the most important organs in the system for detox: liver, kidney, gall bladder, small and large intestine, and lung.

      We have also seen, as in a recent case, a 19 year old boy who was diagnosed with autism at age 3; he was retested by a electral-dermal test and found he had black mold and candida at the fungal growth level (conventional testing can be very misleading). It is now being addressed and they have used the nano-technology patches as well, with good results.

      I must tell you starving the body by looking at carbs or calories is not productive or healthy.

      All overweight people are starving to death. The only result from this method is illness. It is not the amount of food as much as it is the processing of the food; no enzymes, no digestion. Just adding apple cider vinegar to boost hydrochloric acid would help you a great deal. Eating fresh foods and staying away from processed foods would also help.

      This is one reason why antacids are so dangerous and many believe one of the leading causes of cancer for many.

      The other is cholesterol drugs; one of the most dangerous drugs in the world today. Measuring cholesterol is ridiculous. It does not come from food it is made from the liver. Cholesterol is used for healing, and it is not cholesterol that causes heart disease or plaque in the arteries.

      If you are stressed and measure cholesterol, it would be high, if you are relaxed and measure it, it might below. We recommend you not measure it but measure you insulin.
