What do you think Elon Musk should do next?

PayPal, Tesla, SpaceX and SolarCity, a brilliant resumé for a brilliant man. However lets face it, at some point Elon Musk will probably move onto even bigger and better things.
What global issues would you like to see Elon tackle next with his extraordinary mind and large piles of cash?

Mar 23 2013: Figure out a way to improve our primary and secondary education systems so that more people end up with something approaching his manner of approaching a project.

He has done just fine so far.

Apr 5 2013: Colonize the Moon or Mars.
  • Mar 22 2013: I love my Model S! Elon's real big next trick should be to continue his focus and vision of electric cars that can go head to head (in both price (including -$2k/yr from not having to buy gas) and "German" quality in fit and finish of the Model S) with Audi, Toyota, BMW, Nissan,... by using scale/volume to sink the price-point per unit (to ~$25k US) of the Model X. This, again, would cause great positive "Disruption"!

Mar 21 2013: I would love to buy a Tesla riding lawn mower that is changed via a SolarCity product.
(A mower that mulches and exhaust the grass clipping out the back alone with compost tea.)

For SpaceX start a subdivision that creates robots for mining and construction at deep-sea, moon and mars. Alone with high-speed data connection so they can be controlled from anywhere.

For something new I love for Musk to bring his brilliance to the holistic management movement. Possibly creating a system so investors could found and micro found people who want to be ranger in currently desert areas.

Whatever he does I’m sure it will be done with the passion and will be jaw-dropping.
  • Apr 12 2013: Its good to have lofty goals like putting man on MARS in the long term but in the short term TESLA should aim to produce Model T Electric Car which is within the budget of the common man i.e. a $30K electric Sedan. Also through SolarCity Elon should push Solar roofs in every state of the country. My own county GARLAND Texas does not offer Solar awards because of the iron grip that our Utility Company has over our politicians. We need to break the gridlock of the Utility companies and get Solar going in our communities across the country before mankind may step foot on MARS. Its OK to have lofty long term goals of putting Man on MARS but let us keep working closer to home with TESLA and Solar City.
  • Apr 3 2013: Given Elon's focus on power and transportation, and his supposition that harnassing electricity production is one of our two greatest requirements as a species to figure out, I'd reccommend Mr. Musk work on electricity distribution solutions that help the every day consumer, namely:

    wireless electricity.

It's already been invented, I saw it at CES over a space of about 3 inches. It would solve every storage and delivery barrier that exists today for creating a more efficient electricity grid.

    Thanks for reading.

Elon Musk is a great legend ripe for the US Space Age of today but way ahead of his time. He has realized his dreams in exploiting the Internet through founding his Billion dollar company PayPal, in promoting sustainable energy production like through his company SOLAR CITY, his promotion of sustainable energy consumption like through his all electric car company TESLA and his vision to promote space travel through his company SPACEX and is making progress successfully by leaps and bounds.

SpaceX is our answer to Space Exploration and a visit to settle on MARS and an Asteroid. An offshoot to our MARS exploration should building an Asteroid avoidance system before 2039 which is of prime importance.

Elon Musk made his first fortune selling PayPal to eBay in 2002. Now NASA is using his SpaceX to resupply the International Space Station while shares of his Tesla electric car company gained 10% last year. Next up: SolarCity, run by Musk's cousin Lyndon Rive, wants to put solar panels on your home (except not for my home in Garland Texas USA because my local Utility company does not provide the appropriate solar rebates!).

  • Mar 27 2013: Solar power idea: Reconsider America's tar paper and crushed stone disposable, non-recyclable roofs. How about recyclable roofs that also serve to generate electricity?

Wind power idea: Rather than use very large windmills with a classic three-prong airplane propeller, how about reconsidering the design. Rather than a three-prong prop... a round mechanism that would turn with wind coming from any direction (like the vents sometimes seen on the tops of barns). Horizontal bearings would last longer than vertical ones and the entire mechanism would be simpler and easier to service.
  • Mar 27 2013: All kidding aside, I would love it if Solar City, Tesla or Spacex could work on the "Mr. Fusion" idea.

It was funny and clever when they had it in the Back to the Future movies, but if you follow Solar City's distributed generation idea, the concept of a self contained generation system with high current, steady output night and day, rain or shine, would be very attractive.

I remember reading that Honda was developing a natural gas powered fuel cell charging station for their electric cars, maybe Tesla can develop something similar?

  • Mar 25 2013: A lot of good ideas are listed here. I think he should recruit other entrepeneurs, with money to invest, and form a forum of future innovation. This group could devide the key projects mentioned above, with education, and mass transit being my favorites, and he could oversee or guiide and direct the teams to meet the goals of the innovation project. We could create enough jobs here in the USA to meet our employment goals and have plenty of additional jobs for coperative countries who want to advance their economies.

Just as the USA was a model for a new world order for government and human rights, the Innovation Forum could be the model for a new world order for industry industry and the free enterprise system.
  • Mar 24 2013: He should study The Electric Universe Theory which is in development to harness it's implications

Mar 22 2013: Get him to invest in "Thought to digital communication" as well as "Thought to digital design" and make it all open source, sometimes great innovation comes from watching others take what you have one step further and beyond.
  • Mar 22 2013: I saw an interview about a year ago on some late night show (David Letterman, I think) where he said that he had plans to work on a mass transit system that is super fast and weatherproof. I believe it was going to be underground, but I'm not sure. It sounded really interesting.
