If you have NEVER been to Africa, when someone mentions "Africa" or you hear "Africa", what is the FIRST thing that comes into your mind?

People associate different regions/continent based on media, informational material, myths, stereotypes and such. The main idea of this discussion is to find out what people who never had "first hand experience" think about the continent. Thanks for your contribution.

  • Apr 20 2013: Hi Mary,
unfortunately, poverty and inequality is what comes in to my mind. It's true what Jessica has mentioned... I am in the mid east and the questionnaire for blood donation does include if I'd been to africa during the recnt past. I have actually never been to Africa but have seen and heard of so many inspiring stories about the perseverence and bravery of many people. I have recently assigned myself to Bankers without borders and wish to be a part of the voulantary HR Corps for Grameen foundation. My dream is to have an assignment in one of the African countries.
    Regards
    Jay
