If you have NEVER been to Africa, when someone mentions "Africa" or you hear "Africa", what is the FIRST thing that comes into your mind?

People associate different regions/continent based on media, informational material, myths, stereotypes and such. The main idea of this discussion is to find out what people who never had "first hand experience" think about the continent. Thanks for your contribution.

Apr 15 2013: when someone mentions Africa the first thing that comes tom my mind is the struggle against apartheid led by Nelson Mandela in SA
the other things that come to my mind is the vast savannah grasslands with its beautiful wildlife and the problems in the region of the Magrib (North African countries)

Thanks for sharing...I totally agree the apartheid and Nelson Mandela is an iconic story that many resonate with. I am proud of him.
You are so right about the beautiful wildlife and the need to combat Africa problems...
