If you have NEVER been to Africa, when someone mentions "Africa" or you hear "Africa", what is the FIRST thing that comes into your mind?

People associate different regions/continent based on media, informational material, myths, stereotypes and such. The main idea of this discussion is to find out what people who never had "first hand experience" think about the continent. Thanks for your contribution.

    Apr 8 2013: Black people,

    then:
    - lush tropics
    - sahara desert and muslim countries above it
    - Congo and Bonobo's
    - very large continent with a lot of cultural diversity

      Apr 11 2013: Hey Christophe
Thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts about Afica.
You are on point and your thoughts prompted me to "google" Bonobos and the results were:
      1. Online apparel shop
      2. chimpanzee
I bet you meant the Chimpanzee...and I also read about an organization that is conserving them (http://www.bonobo.org/).....You are truly educating me about countries in Africa.
NB/ You should pay a visit and maybe start with visiting Congo to see the Bonobos...

      Love, Mary

Apr 15 2013: Ah, of all countries Congo? hmm... maybe the fact that my home country (Belgium) was the one colonizing it, might be inconvenient... (real black page in our History, if you ever want to know about the massacre king Leopold the Second did over there... It did make Belgium quite rich though)

But ok, these kinds of specifics don't pop up in my mind when I hear "Africa"

Interesting...I am learning so much in this conversation. Do you have a particular country you would like to visit?
          Thanks.
          Love, Mary
