If you have NEVER been to Africa, when someone mentions "Africa" or you hear "Africa", what is the FIRST thing that comes into your mind?

People associate different regions/continent based on media, informational material, myths, stereotypes and such. The main idea of this discussion is to find out what people who never had "first hand experience" think about the continent. Thanks for your contribution.

  • Apr 13 2013: Blood diamonds, HIV, malaria, malnutrition and environment exploitation. Then the typical National Geographic vision - lions and/or Africans dancing half naked.

      Apr 17 2013: Hey Adrian,
I think you meant "Black Diamonds"...and coupled with challenges such as disease and poverty.....and for environment exploitation I would say Africa is the top continent that has biggest untapped natural landmass however poor sanitation and chemical use and poor sewer can be said to contribute to environment degradation. Coupled with all these ills is the fantastic wildlife and beautiful scenery and people that are worthy a visit....
      Thanks for sharing.
      Love, Mary
