If you have NEVER been to Africa, when someone mentions "Africa" or you hear "Africa", what is the FIRST thing that comes into your mind?

People associate different regions/continent based on media, informational material, myths, stereotypes and such. The main idea of this discussion is to find out what people who never had "first hand experience" think about the continent. Thanks for your contribution.

  • Apr 10 2013: Hi Mary! When you say "Brazilian dance", you're probably referring to the Carnival Paredes performed by what we call "Schools of Samba", right? So that's what I meant by pointing out African and Brazilian culture similarities. I think Brazilian Carnival is quite African-spirited in all aspects. **** So, don't give up planning your visit to Brazil. I'll be happy to have you around us, and have the chance to show you my hometown and its surroundings. Till soon (as possible). Take care!!! Gerdson

      Apr 13 2013: Hey Gerdson,

Yes I meant the Carnival Paredes. During international school festival, Brazilian students would perform and showcase their culture...It was by far the best (according to me).....And yes, so much from the African traditions like the feathers, drums, paint on the body..not forgetting beautiful smiles and confident posture.....I am looking forward to seeing your hometown and its surrounding.....(meet soon)....Thanks once more....
      Love, Mary
