If you have NEVER been to Africa, when someone mentions "Africa" or you hear "Africa", what is the FIRST thing that comes into your mind?

People associate different regions/continent based on media, informational material, myths, stereotypes and such. The main idea of this discussion is to find out what people who never had "first hand experience" think about the continent. Thanks for your contribution.

  • Apr 10 2013: After I have posted this comment, I did read through the other comments under the same posts which includes your responses to theirs. I appreciate your sharings, yea, for instance the idea of safari, great culture. In Malaysia, I was rarely exposed to understanding and experiencing different cultures, which I am currenly interested in after getting into university away in Hong Kong. I think I understand what you feel when reading the perspective of mine, as Malaysia is also being catogorized under developing countries whereby volunteers are sent to help those in need, though my home town as in the city I live in are consist of upper middle class of families.

Apr 13 2013: Hi Ng Yee,
It is amazing to read other diverse thoughts. I am also learning a lot and appreciating humanity more. I have learnt that people are mainly interested in knowing about each other if the platform is there; "Curiosity about life".
I hope you are enjoying your stay in Hong Kong...I once worked with Chinese and there are great people...My boss and coworkers were wonderful and caring...:).....I had a Uncle who went to school in Malaysia though in 90's...he would come and narrate story about the different food and language. I truly connect with your view and I am thrilled to read what people think about Africa and the willingness of people to share their thoughts. Continue learning and travel as much to gain better perspective and enrich life moments...
      Love, Mary..
