If you have NEVER been to Africa, when someone mentions "Africa" or you hear "Africa", what is the FIRST thing that comes into your mind?

People associate different regions/continent based on media, informational material, myths, stereotypes and such. The main idea of this discussion is to find out what people who never had "first hand experience" think about the continent. Thanks for your contribution.

Apr 8 2013: Originally I was going to simply comment with 'wildlife' - purely because I'm going to South Africa the beginning of next year and have a big safari booked and it is one of those places where some of the most beautifully fascinating animals in the world can be seen in their prime. Though after flicking through a few comments I realised how off key that answer sounds. Yet I think that at least shows the diversity within Africa. It is after all the second largest continent and so surely that is justification for a range of opinions. There are parts laced with poverty and disease, areas which are hugely over-populated, others more so open space, those full of tradition and values, others of discrimination and violence. This question (and the below comments) have really sparked some thought into the other parts of Africa I'd like to experience. Thanks

      Apr 11 2013: Hi Becky,
Thanks for been truthful and even taking time to share more....and your original thought of wildlife is on point......Lol.....yes the comments we have in this thread are varied and educative at the same time. The comments have made me realize that some people don't know the good side of Africa. It seem like everybody knows the bad side i.e poverty, war, discrimination and such. It is also a pleasure to read comments from people who are interested in exploring Africa and experiencing the truth for themselves. I am glad you are visiting South Africa and I bet the experience will be enlightening and to say the least life changing.."in a positive way".....
Go experience and come back and share your experiences.....and the love.....also there are numerous interesting regions you can visit within the continent....research and decides on some other countries depending on your interest....for some big smiles and hugs....narrow down to Kenya...lol.....Enjoy your trip.
      Love, Mary
