If you have NEVER been to Africa, when someone mentions "Africa" or you hear "Africa", what is the FIRST thing that comes into your mind?

People associate different regions/continent based on media, informational material, myths, stereotypes and such. The main idea of this discussion is to find out what people who never had "first hand experience" think about the continent. Thanks for your contribution.

  • Apr 8 2013: I think about beautiful landscapes and wild animals. It's definitely a country I would love to visit but I haven't had the time or the money to do it so, for now, it will have to wait a little bit longer. I'm still young! And not that far away...

I know many people think about poverty, but I think that poverty exists in every corner of the world. It's really sad but it's true.

We should think about the great things that all the countries have to offer because if we don't, then we wouldn't be that willing to visit other places and meet other cultures.

Have you ever been to Africa?

      Apr 11 2013: Hi Virginia,
      Thanks for sharing your thought.....
And yes you are on point in regards to beautiful landscapes and numerous wild animals. Yes you have to identify a country within Africa continent and visit..my biased advice is to start with Kenya...(This is the beautiful country I was born and raised...it is in East Africa).....I bet this answers your question of whether I have been to Africa. ( Africa is my home...lol....welcome and enjoy my beautiful continent).
I love you view about poverty and the way you have put it.....every region has it own challenges and concentrating on challenges never solve any problems...it is by concentrating on strengths and available resources that we overcome our challenges...So I agree with you that we should look and appreciate our greatness as Africans and as a humanity.

      Love, Mary
      • Apr 15 2013: Hi Mary,

Well, your biased advice is great for me. No one to give you a better insight of a place but those who have lived there, with the goods and not-so-goods. :-) There must be very few places in this world untouched by problems and challenges.

I was born in a "complicated" country and now I live in Spain, which is going through a difficult crisis so there's nothing else to do but make the most of the places where you live. :-)

        Nice meeting you, Mary!

          Apr 17 2013: Hi Virginia,

Nice to meet you Virginia and receive my firm digital hand shake + hug:)
And yes, as humanity if we only can embrace our current moments and locations and make the best of them....I hope you are enjoying Spain.
          Glad my biased advice worked
          Love, Mary
