If you have NEVER been to Africa, when someone mentions "Africa" or you hear "Africa", what is the FIRST thing that comes into your mind?

People associate different regions/continent based on media, informational material, myths, stereotypes and such. The main idea of this discussion is to find out what people who never had "first hand experience" think about the continent. Thanks for your contribution.

  • Apr 5 2013: Hunger and poverty, kids suffereing from mulnutrition, non-structural and small shelter, place where you got to walk for an hour to reach a school or hospital... I think basically my thoughts are influenced the activities that I have participated in, to be specific Famine 30 of World Vision and a research done on background of DR Congo.

Apr 9 2013: Hey Ng Yee,
Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I can identify with the origin of your thoughts...I worked with World Vision for 7 months..and yes, their main focus is poverty, lack and need. So your thoughts are right based on the source of information. I love the fact that you know there is more to Africa other than poverty and hunger......The other side of Africa that is rarely mentioned is great people, untapped potential, massive natural resources.....among other not forgetting a trip of a life time ( Safari)......Hope you visit Africa one day and discover the truth....
      Love, Mary
