If you have NEVER been to Africa, when someone mentions "Africa" or you hear "Africa", what is the FIRST thing that comes into your mind?

People associate different regions/continent based on media, informational material, myths, stereotypes and such. The main idea of this discussion is to find out what people who never had "first hand experience" think about the continent. Thanks for your contribution.

  • Mar 24 2013: As a college student major in construction translation, I may go to Aferica to work as a translator for SOEs in China. I personlly think that to work in Aferica is really a challenge. My father is ok with my decision, but my mother showed strong disagreement concerning this issue... I'm in a dilemma .
The first thing that come into my mind when hearing the word 'Aferica' is exploring and trying to be safe...
The movie 'Beasts Of Southern Wild' presented an 'Aferican fairy tale' in front of the world. Also I believe China always have sound and healthy relationships with Aferican countries.
South Afeirca may be much safer and welthier than North Aferica. My foreign teacher once got shot while visiting North Aferica.
